Owner description: Picture more than 300,000 Roman spectators cheering chariot races inside this huge Roman circus, which was built to entertain emperors during the time of Imperial Rome.

I knew about Circus Maximus but was slightly disappointed when I saw it, there are no signs to tell you what the area is it just looks likes a patch of grass, If the area was sign posted and had some history boards up this could be improved a great deal, seems a shame its overlooked.

Great to be on it, and walking it, but mostly grassed over now, and if you didn't know, you wouldn't know....

This will be a great attraction, when there is something back on this long piece of land. We had no idea what it was when we walked past it on the first night. There was no signs to say. This would have been a massive horse & chariot track, the building would have been much greater than Colosseum. The Colosseum had 50,000 spectator seating - The Circo Massimo would have heald more than 250,000. If you use your imagination you can see how grand this would have been. It's definitely worth seeing but don't expect more than half an hour here. Mostly I saw locals sun bathing on it's steep grass banks. I understand that they are trying to renovate the sight so I think it will look great in the future, for now it's s short stop off.

You can visit it for free. You get a great view of palatine hill and the arena from the via del circo massimo on the hill. You can sit here and take in the view- hop on buses all stop here. It was the arena for chariot racing and film set for Ben Hur

Though it is now only a few small ruins and grassy banks. You can clearly see the outline of what was there once and with a bit of historical knowledge (or a guide book) and Imaginations it's a nice sight and walk.
