Owner description: Roman palace worth visiting for its splendor and collection of art, especially its gigantic ceiling fresco of clouds and swirling figures by Italian painter-architect Pietro da Cortona.

we visited the collection during january and were thrilled with all the paintings here. The annuciation in the first room ( Bellini I think) was gorgeous. What really impressed us however were the paintings by Caravaggio, and his Narcissus was worth the entrance fee ! The use of light here and the evocative nature of the camvas as a whole made me want to stay all day.
The palazzo itself is worth a mention - the bees which were the coat of arms of the Barberini family were carved all around, and the rooms and ceilings mean that the visit is a sumptuous experience for the eye.

As one local I met told me, it is probably the most understated museum in the city. Wonderful artwork in a relaxing layout. A definite must do!

The paintings by Bernini, Raphael, and Caravaggio are enough to justify a visit to Palazzo Barberini – the National Gallery of Ancient Art. The incredible architecture, trompe-l'œil ceilings, and hundreds of other fabulous works of art are a bonus.

The Palace was built as a home for the Barberini family based on designs by Maderno; Borromini and Bernini were involved in the construction and the result is breathtaking.
Admire Raphael's La Fornarina, Holbein's portrait of Henry VIII. I loved the ceiling in the Gran Salone ..... stand in the middle of the room, look up at the ceiling and be amazed !

Great museum. The facade and staircase is by Bernini. Museum features important italian paintings from various time periods. Nice walk through the grounds.
