This area is a hidden gem, in the day you would pass & think nothing of it yet at night it is the place to be. Lots of great places to eat, good restaurants with authentic Italian food, funky bars with great tapas & sharing platters or street food at competitive prices with the hustle & bustle of local market stalls with jewelry crafts accessories etc every other corner you turn.
It's very much like Venice with its narrow streets & being able to lose your sense of direction. Although I was pregnant & couldn't enjoy the alcoholic delights the cocktails in lots of bars looked amazing!
It's over the river & a little out of the way but definitely worth a visit.

If you're a fan of small cosy streets full of flowers and vintage style... this is a place for you. Really lovely, with a lot of restaurants terrace across corners. Peaceful area

Trastevere is absolutely the place to be after sunset. A lot of street artists, music, local people and bars.

If your visit in Rome is more than a few days, then you should have a walk in this old area. As it says its name, Transtevere, you have to cross the river to get there. It isn't far away from the center and it could be a nice stroll along its streets. The area doesn't have the monuments you can find everywhere in Rome, but you can visit the church Santa Maria di Transtevere and have a rest in one of the restaurants there. In my opinion you should go there in the evening when there are a lot of people and the place is full of life. We were there on a Saturday morning , around 11, and the place seemed empty and lifeless. But be aware that it isn't as impressive as the other part of the city.

This suburb has quaint laneways with interesting shops and piazzas. It is also a bit quieter as it it a little way away from the touristy areas. It was a warm day and it was very pleasant walking down the shaded laneways discovering the shops
