I think this is my favourite square in Rome and has got to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Of course it's not really a "square" at all, being far longer than wide but the renaissance and baroque architecture, the fountains, the gorgeous colours, make it unmissable. However, it makes a big difference when you visit because it is normally full of tourists, cartoon artists and trinket-sellers, which do take the shine off the experience. I would recommend visiting at a quiet time of the day (not easy) and my favourite by far is about seven o-clock in the morning. Crossing Piazza Navona all on your own on a summer morning is an unforgettable experience.
