The main reason we ate here was that it was right next door to our B&B (Domus Diana) but also that when Machiavelli's Club had no spaces the owner recommended here as an alternative with 'a good dessert selection'.

It was reasonably priced and the service was efficient. We were sat outside on the street so I can't comment on the interior.

We had Italian platter (mixed cured meats) so can't really go wrong, it came with a lovely pickled artichoke to start and lamb in garlic dressing & beef in garlic dressing for our mains. Note you have to order a side as it is only meat you get - no veg/potatoes etc. We had chicory in chilli dressing as a side, the food was OK.

For dessert they'd run out of fruit salad so I just had melon (three slices, for about 4EUR which was poor value) and my partner Mille-Feuille which was edible. Good price on the wine with a bottle for around 7EUR.

The place didn't blow us away but we didn't really expect it to. It was handy distance from the B&B and everything was edible, but not so memorable.

We went to Trattoria Morgana while returning exhausted to our appartment after a whole day of sight-seeing in Rome.
We decided to go there, because it was 20 metres from our appartment and it looked like one of those local, nice trattorias one sees while walking through non-touristic places in Rome.
At first-the interior....quite normal, nothing special, clean, one of the waiters welcomed us and gave us menus.
Then, we waited 15 minutes for our order to be taken. It didn't bother us, we had time, but during this time, there was only one sympathetic waiter serving the whole place.
We received our meals, fresh insalata mista with delicious tomatoes, delicious home made pasta with wonderful, carrot-broth-veal-tomato tasting ragu sauce, very good wine...everything was more than fine until we payed the bill and left the tip...
Then, the second, younger waiter came to us and told us to leave the table and go finish our wine outside, because of a reservation waiting for our table. It wasn't there when we arrived, noboty told us about it...it would be acceptable if someone asked us politely to change the place for outside, we wouldn't mind...but something like this happened to us for the first time ever, not to mention, that we have eaten in many busier restaurants before, never being told to leave.
That kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable and it would be a shame for any good restaurant.

That's why, the rating is poor, although the food was very nice.

After a long day coming from Civitavecchia from a 12 days cruise we arrived to Rome starving. We have hired a driver and after checking in our hotel he suggested Trattoria Morgana. What a pleasant surprise. we let they bring what the thought was best and started with the best pasta fagioli I have ever tasted, food was great and very reasonably priced. Going back our next time in Rome.

We were recomended this restaurant as we couldn't get a table at Machiavellis. The food was nice but that's it. Service was bland, ambience sterile due to harsh overhead lighting. But most worryingly the marble dado rail that goes around the perimeter of the restaurant at eye level when sitting down, is covered in dust. This makes you immediately wonder about the standards of hygiene throughout the rest of the establishment.
What really confuses me about Italian restaurants is how, for example the previous night at Elettra, for the same price range, as soon as you arrive you are given complimentary prosecco and bread on the table, yet here at Morgana's the bread pops up on the bill at €3 whether you ask for it or not!

We ate in this trattoria our first night in Rome.... The choice was easy - we were exhausted, and the restaurant was in the same building we stayed! It was excellent - in fact, so good that we came back there two more times during our one week stay! Simple Authentic Roman food, good wine selection, fair prices, nice atmosphere....highly recommended
