I took the half-day Walks of Italy Colosseum/Palatine Hill/Roman Forum tour with Cecelia and was very happy. The company uses top grade headsets so I was always able to hear Cecelia's excellent commentary about what we were seeing. She is very passionate and knowledgeable about Roman history and landmarks and I would definitely recommend Walks of Italy and particularly Cecelia for any Roman tours.

“Walks of Italy” really helped us make the most of our time in Rome. Out two top examples: (1) With their Pristine Sistine walk, Rosa guided us past the crowds and gave us great info on a tour of Vatican’s highlights, a curated selection of their massive collections, plus we had precious quiet time to the Sistine Chapel itself. What we missed was hours of waiting in jostling lines. (2) On the VIP Colosseum Tour, Katia provided a fascinating stream of explanation of all we saw, particularly valuable in the Palatine and Forum areas. Katia was a delight as a guide, giving us more and better info than guidebooks, engaging questions, a really great tour. We also took and recommend their Crypts, Bones and Catacombs, Borghese Galleries, and Rome Driving Tour. This outfit’s guides are famously eager, friendly, and well informed … the best possible hosts to this fascinating city.

We had three separate tours with Walks of Italy while in Rome. The best, hands-down, was the Pristine Sistine tour. David, our tour guide, is an expert storyteller and was able to hold our attention for 3.5 hours without a moment of boredom. Our three children (ages 13, 13 and 11) loved every minute of it. Seeing the Sistine Chapel before it opened to the general public was the only way to go. We had 20 minutes to soak it all in. When we walked back through near the end of our tour, it was wall-to-wall people. Our food tour turned out to be a private tour since we were the only participants. It was so much fun and the food was delicious! The VIP Colosseum tour was a delight as well. Ancient Rome really came to life for us on this tour. I cannot say enough good things about Walks of Italy. If you're on the fence, just do it!

We have now done five tours with Walks of Italy: Borghese Gallery, Colosseum VIP, Best of Rome last year, and Pristine Sistine and Crypts and Catacombs this year. All have been excellent with enthusiastic, extremely knowledgeable and good-humoured guides (this year we had Guido and Simona). I wrote a review of the other tours last March.

The price of the Pristine Sistine is well worth it as in a small group (our group of 14 was divided in two and Camilla who was our guide for the Colosseum led the other group) we had 40 minutes in the Sistine Chapel with very few people. When we walked through it much later people were packed in like sardines. Guido expertly led us through the throngs to key masterpieces and points of interest in the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's.

Simona led a fascinating tour of underground Rome - crypts, catacombs and layers of underground churches and places of worship. Her knowledge and insight were amazing, and once again we had a small group of interested people who asked good questions (my sense is that these tours attract people who are genuinely interested and have done some homework ahead of the tour).

Both Guido and Simona paced the tours well and made sure there were appropriate washroom breaks. They were also very concerned that their guests could find taxis, restaurants etc. when the tour ended.

Walks of Italy is well-reviewed on this site and deserves to be - the guides really add to your appreciation and understanding of Rome.

My family of 4 enjoyed 3 separate "semi-private" tours with Walks of Italy in Rome, including the Colosseum/Forum, Vatican museums, and a last-minute customized tour when we realized our 3rd tour itinerary overlapped with the 1st one. We went over spring break and never had more than 8 people in our groups, plus they use quality headsets that come in handy when traversing the more crowded sites/attractions.

Our guides proved knowledgeable and enthusiastic, very patient, and spoke excellent English. They even through in some dinner/ristorante recommendations when asked.

As mentioned above, when we realized our tour selections overlapped significantly, Walks of Italy called and made a special effort to accommodate us, even though it was outside their clear policies. Since we were the only ones signed up for the evening tour, our guide Joseph customized the tour to show us some new areas we would never had explored, including the Jewish "ghetto," and some lovely, small piazzas and churches off the beaten track. They really do go out of their way to ensure you have a quality experience.

I tend not to enjoy group tours, but this was definitely the way to go. Next time we visit Italy, we'll be sure to work with Walks of Italy again. Highly recommended!
