We have recently travelled throughout Europe for 7 weeks and this was the best pizza we had, hands down. We were staying in Trastevere and our apartment was only a few doors down, so it was also very convenient.
Although there is nothing fancy about this pizzeria, it didn't matter. After 9.30pm, it was filled with Italians and the pizza is absolutely delicious. Pizzeria Nerone epitomises our Italian pizza experience.
We ended up eating here 3 out of 6 nights and just couldn't get anything for such good value anywhere else in Italy. The pizzas were so incredibly cheap, but they had beautiful fresh ingredients, crispy base and rich flavours.
Our favourite pizza was the Caprese, which consisted of a beautiful thin crispy base, with their homemade tomato sauce, which is then baked in the woodfired oven. After it comes out, lots of fresh basil, fresh sliced cherry tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and a drizzle of olive oil is added before it is served. Mmmmmm - we still have dreams about this delicious pizza.
A food experience that is etched in our memories....
