This was my second Clam Tour -- this time with Tess. I had very high expectations -- since Sam had been exceptional, the bar was high. Tess more than met those expectations.
We spent two half days with Tess during a very rainy time in Rome. It could have been a 'wash-out'. But not with Tess. Her enthusiasm and intellect kept us engaged and in exploration mode, as she pointed out interesting details, symbols, history, etc. around each corner.
Tess appropriately tailored the content to our needs -- and was flexible to meet our desires. After several days of heavy rain, Tess recognized our need to tour and explore in a drier environment, and adapted our plans to provide an extraordinary tour of the Borghese Gallery. Her knowledge of art and art history helped the pieces come to life.
Rome is spectacular. Tess's knowledge, energy and enthusiasm provide the experience that makes it come to life.

I highly recommend Tess Amodeo-Vickery as a tour guide for Rome. My wife and our three teenagers spent a half-day with her at the Vatican and another half-day touring Ancient Rome during the weekend before Thanksgiving. Tess is the complete package. She effortlessly uncovers the secrets of Rome, has a great depth of historic knowledge, and an infectious love of art. We all felt like we learned so much from her -- and without her we would have missed many of the interesting details, symbolism, and historic interconnections that make travel in Europe so engaging. The information she provided was at a level that all of us -- including our children -- could readily enjoy. Tess has an easy going, engaging personality that makes spending time with her fun. She recommended great restaurants, and was even able to secure a reservation for us at a restaurant after our Hotel concierge was unable to! She also arranged for van service from the airport, which was a great help. Tess made our time in Rome memorable, fun, and intellectually stimulating. And all at a relaxed pace.

Tess made our trip to Rome. She is a brilliant, highly articulate and learned scholar, despite her tender age. She was able to engage our three children (11, 9 & 9) through her storytelling and brought the ancient city to life. She eruditely answered their many questions and kept them in rapt attention as she deciphered for us the significance of crucial details we definitely would have missed. It's one thing to read about history but quite another to have an expert who knows her city and its history walk us through it. Our family had so much fun and learned so much about Ancient Rome from Tess! We as parents felt gratified to have someone with such a deep knowledge in classics to lead our children on the best "field trip" they've ever had!

My parents and I went on a couple of half-day guided tours with Tess through the Colosseum/Forum and the Vatican. Her education in the classics and art history provided a depth of knowledge to her storytelling that very much impressed us. She was great at pointing out the little things we wouldn't have noticed on our own and recounting the folklore of the city. She was glad to give us advice about what else to explore, make reservations for us, answer our random questions, and snap some family photos. Since she prearranged the tickets, we were able to breeze past the long lines of people waiting at the entrances to the monuments.

We were walking around with very little opportunity to sit for several hours, which was a strain on my parents. Definitely bring comfortable shoes, a bottle of water, and a camera.

Tess gave us a wonderful orientation to Rome on her walking tour. Not only did Tess arrange a car to pick us up at the airport, but she also made a lunch reservation for us that was close to our hotel and then met us there for her tour to begin. It was a great way to start off our Italy adventure! We completely forgot the jet lag.
Tess gave us a great overview of the city on our first day in Rome and also helped us plan our itinerary for the next two days that we spent in Rome. We went to every restaurant and area Tess suggested and had a fabulous trip.
My daughter and I highly recommend Tess as a guide!!
Tess made our Rome experience rich in history and fun!!
