Althea Inn is a small B & B in the interesting area of Testaccio and just across the river from Trastevere. The hotel is in a block of flats on the fifth floor(there is a liff) and it is very much like staying in one's own apartment. Once inside the accommodation reveals itself to be very comfortably furnished, smart and clean. it is very spacious with room for a table to eat the delicious breakfast that is custom ordered and served by the owner. The bathroom is also spacious and well equipped. Best of all, there is a terrace for each room where you can have a drink or eat your breakfast. The owner and his small staff are very friendly, helpful and accommodating and the prices are really competitive for Rome. In Testaccio you have the advantage of being away from the tourists hordes while still within a short metro ride to all the major sights. Also, the area, being authentically Roman is packed with fantastic places to eat great Roman food at amazing prices. This is a great place for those who want to enjoy the best of Rome both familiar and unfamiliar. Highly recommended

My sister and I stayed at the Althea Inn in September for 5 nights. Sorry for the late review, but I was traveling for over 9 weeks. Alessandro thought of everything to make our stay a memorable one. From the welcoming bottle of wine, to recommending great places to eat, transport and sightseeing destinations. The room was beautifully decorated with every convenience. Lovely large balcony where we ate our breakfast each morning. The meals were very well presented and yummy! The balcony was also a great place to relax after a long day of exploring Rome. Some wine, cheese and olives and we knew this was the perfect place. Alessandro would leave us tea and biscuits in the afternoon so we could have a nice evening drink and chat before going to bed. The area was quiet and within easy access to great local restaurants and cafes. Metro and buses only a 10 minute walk away. Away from the main tourist areas where we felt part of the local neighborhood. We had a wonderful time and can't thank Alessandro enough for his warmth and hospitality. We hope to see him again someday!

Room Tip: Loved our twin room on the top floor with large balcony, plants, candle and fairy lights.

Stayed here in November last year, and I cannot praise the place highly enough, not in the city centre, but the metro in 2 minutes walk away.
The place looks like a normal housing block from the outside so its not that easy to find if you don’t know what to look for, but once you find it you have found the best little B& B in Rome. The staff are great and can’t do enough for you, the rooms was great, and the balcony was wonderful.
If you are going to Rome do yourself a favour and check out this little gem

This place really was a dream place to stay! The service, room, & all-round care factor was impeccable - my hats off to the owner Alessandro & his innkeeper Maricar! My wife & I arrived after a taxing 18hr journey & we were treated to delicious breakfasts (legendary!), great local tips for places to visit & local restaurants, help to do wash our clothes & even coffees & chocolates whilst we worked in our rooms on a rainy Rome day. The neighbourhood is very local & you feel like a regular Roman as you roam around. Couldnt recommend this place more & we cant wait to come back again!

The Althea Inn was such a great base to explore both the tourist and the local scenes of Rome. Positioned in a suburb with buses, trams and trains at our door and also within walking distance of many attractions, we found it a great retreat. Alexandro and his team could not have been more welcoming or helpful with breakfast in bed each day and a complimentary bottle of wine on our last night. The suite was excellent too, we had everything we needed, umbrellas, drying rack, free wifi, cappuccinos, lovely terrace, comfy bed etc etc.

Our family stayed at Althea Inn for 3 nights in December and we couldn't have wished for anything more perfect. Alessandro was a consummate host, we loved staying in an authentic neighborhood, the breakfasts were sublime and we were 100 percent comfortable. Thank you Alessandro for a stay of perfection!! We will definitely be back
