“Home cooked Italian goodness”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

We had a late lunch here and we were satisfied with the experience. Good cheap red wine, delicious seafood pasta and cacio e pepe. It's always full of locals when we walk by at night.

“As authentic as you'll get in the centre of Rome”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

If you're looking for a real, traditional trattoria in Rome, you'll need to get out of the centre. If on the other hand you want somewhere on the metro line and close to Termini, I recommend La Vecchia Roma.

While it does see its fair share of tourists (but where doesn't in ultra-chic Monti?), it has maintained a lot of its authenticity. It's a very down to earth establishment which gives you a little taste of how things used to be. You see the spontaneity of the Roman tradition through the waiters and their old school service (for better or worse).

The food is fresh and of good quality for the price you pay. This is a trattoria so I recommend sticking to the traditional roman plates if you want to eat the best of what they've to offer. If in doubt, just ask the waiter.

Try the large antipasto of "foccacia con verdure" (foccacia with vegetables) or "foccacia con affettati" (foccacia with salami, hams and cheese on top). If you like your servings of pasta on the larger side, this is the place for you; the "spaghetti all'amatriciana" and "spaghetti alla vongole" are very good. Abbacchio was very good but a little on the grissly side.

I'll keep coming back..

“Very cozy restaurant in the city center”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

Great pasta (rigatoni alla coda, 8 euro), great lamb (abbachio, 10 euro). Cheap wine (2 euro for 1/4l). Actual timetable is: lunch from 12, dinner from 19. Open all days.

Reasonable prices, locals' choice, tasty pizza and spaghetti near the Colisseum. Accompany your dishes with a nice red table wine!
