“Near St”

Good food but a bit pricey probable due to its location, the risotto was creamy with good amount of seafood, the curry shrimp though claimed prepared from frozen prawn did taste fresh, worth a try if you want something close to St Peter Square.

“Amazing, Amazing, Amazing”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Fellow travelers we met in Tuscany told us this was a "must go to" spot. They in turn had been sent by friends who had been there. They were absolutely correct...we let Stepphano choose our meal and it was the best we had in Rome. The staff was professional, friendly and the food was amazing. The price was reasonable and the decor very Slick. There was a private party going on at the far end of the restaurant but that didn't detract from our dinner. I'm sending anyone I know who is traveling to Rome. Don't miss it!

“An absolute must-visit, great service and food”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

My hubby and I were so impressed with the experience we had at Caffe Universale, that we went there a second time on our last night in Rome, as we wanted a guaranteed good last dinner experience.

We made a reservation for dinner on our 1st night in Rome, based on Tripadvisor reviews. When we 1st walked up to the restaurant, located near the Pantheon, we noticed that it was rather empty inside, and we hesitated going in. There was another restaurant just opposite, more of an osteria, that we considered going into instead. But somehow, we decided to stick to the plan and went into Caffe Universale, and boy are we glad we did!

From the get-go, the service was impeccable - a chilled glass of prosecco was served upon being seated, and bread plus some crispy flatbread too. On both visits, the fabulous Letistia was our waitress, and she is the epitome of a charming and professional wait staff.

The dish I enjoyed the most was the breaded baby lamb - so much that I had it again on our 2nd visit. The lamb is tender, not too gamey and perfectly cooked. Also impressive is the lobster linguine, with a whole lobster - what we did on both times, was to order appetizers, then share a pasta and share a main. Portions are generous, so we found this worked for us.

we never made it to dessert both times, too satiated from the meal. Also, in terms of the ambience, service and quality of the food, i would definitely say this was great value. I would definitely rank this as my top dining experience in Rome.

“A change from the Norm”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

Fancied a change to the routine Italian menu offered by the majority of restaurants and fell across this one. Nice modern clean design inside, friendly and helpful staff with lovely food. Service is excellent. You can either select from the main menu or go for one of their four course meals. This place is well worth a visit
