I have been many times in Rome, I often walked the Via San Giovanni towards the Colosseum and have always shunned the restaurants around the corner from Piazza del Colosseo. Most of them look like tourist traps, and the red and white checkered tablecloths scare me off already. But this time we were greeted by a very friendly employee of Royal Art Café and our group of 3 adults and 3 small children got a table on the veranda on the first floor with a stunning view of the Colosseum. Royal Art café offers more than just view. Our group enjoyed a delicious lunch, fine wine (their wine list is very clear) and the service was very friendly and very attentive towards the small children. Whenever in Italy I have ravioli for lunch and that to me is a test for the quality of the cook and the kitchen. Royal's ravioli deserves a high score.
