Owner description: Context provides an in-depth alternative to traditional tours. Context's Rome walking seminars are an alternative to typical guided tours. With over 50 different walks led by Ph.D. or MA-level scholars, and with the smallest group size available—only six people. Context is much more than a walking tour of Rome.

“Great for families”

We booked the Colosseum tour with four adults and two kids (8 and 6 yrs old) and absolutely loved our guide, Linda. Linda was great engaging the kids just as much as the adults and ensuring there was a rest half way through with a colouring in activity while she continued explaining the history. The three hours went very quickly and we all loved it, kids and adults! Great value for money and highly recommended to others.

“Coloseum & Vatican tours”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2014 via mobile

Best advanced planning we did! Tours are easy to find and punctual. Groups are small (6 in each). Guides (Bene & Patriczia) were fantastic. Both had backgrounds in history and archeology, and I mean have actually worked in the field. Both seemed to give enough information without overwhelming the group. You won't be sorry. Kinda wish we had booked an underground tour as well....next time.

“Mythology tour - teens listened with open mouths...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2014 via mobile

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. We were challenged to identify the mythological gods/goddesses represented with the cards Liz provided as part of the tour. My kids have had some instruction through school about the Roman Gods so it was good to see them using what they know. The cost was reasonable given the length and the quality of the tour guide. As our first time with Context, I would definitely use the service again if I have the chance. Meeting place was convenient and given it was early in the morning, not too crowded to connect with our guide.

“Always Wonderful Tours”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2014

This was our third Context Tour. We have loved them all. We had a Vatican Tour many years ago. This was our first experience with Context. It was so positive that when we traveled to Pompeii a few years later, we arranged another tour with Context. Again, we had an excellent tour and docent.

This year, we took our 13 year old so and decided to do the underground Rome tour. Our docent, Patrizia, was an archaeologist who had actually worked on one of the sites we visited.

This was a fascinating tour with an excellent, knowledgeable docent. She never excluded anyone in our group, including our son. She had a real passion for the sites and the history of Rome. She was engaging and kept our attention for the entire tour.

The tour is a good length - three hours or so. We have been on some tours (not with Context) that go for 6 or more hours and have found them to be just too long.

Patrizia also tailored the tour to our interests and stamina. We could have chosen from three sites or to see all three. This is one of the nice features of arranging a private tour with a Context docent.

I can highly recommend this tour.

“Great tour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2014

We visited the Vatican with Francesca Barbarini and were thoroughly impressed with her knowledge of and passion for the art and it's political significance at the time it was painted. Francesca is lovely and did a great job of helping us navigate the oceans of visitors that were enjoying the Vatican with us! We met her at a café across the street from the entrance to the museum. Be careful to look for the address that is on the information that is emailed to you. There is another café a few doors away where many other tours meet. Our teenagers were fascinated and thrilled with the visit. We have taken other tours with Context in Spain and have been impressed with them every time. It is money well spent for a truly memorable experience.
