“Really nice hotel away from the hustle”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2013

Stayed here for 2 nights at the start of our vacation in Italy. The place is a bit hard to find at the first go. The taxi driver who took us there didn't seem to know where it was either. But once you get there, it is all worthwhile. Set in a very quiet residential area, you never really feel like you are in one of the most crowded cities in Italy.

The staff at the hotel were really very helpful. They sell the public transport tickets at the reception at the same price as the Tabacchi. This is particularly useful because the closest Tabacchi is not really close. They also helped us figure out various public transport routes that helped us save a lot of time travelling in Rome.

The breakfast was a decent spread served in a really homely atmosphere. The room itself was extremely comfortable. We had a private garden which was a really nice place to sit and have a glass of wine in the evening. Even without the garden, they have a nice common sit out area which is equally cosy.

But all this comes at the cost of accessibility. There is only one bus, 360 connecting the hotel to the city and the bus is not very frequent. Well, technically there are two but the other one is a bit of a walk. The hotel recommended a path to walk to the city through some gardens which was really beautiful. The walk takes about 45 min and is beautiful the first time. Not a very practical way for everyday use.

There are some small cafes nearby but the proper restaurants are about a 15-20 min walk away. Considering the hotel does not have a restaurant, make sure you organize dinner plans before you get back to the hotel.

Having said all that, I would definitely recommend it as a place to stay (because it is a really nice place with even better staff) as long as you are ok with walking a reasonable amount.

Hotel Villa Duse is a great spot just outside of Rome for those looking for a nice hotel at a great price while also providing some quiet from the hustle/bustle of the city. If you are not a fan of walking 45 minutes to/from town or waiting on a local bus, this might not be the place for you. The rooms/amenities are very nice. I highly recommend getting either a garden room or the Tower room for you also get your own outdoor space to hang out. Makes for a great evening to sit outside with some take-away pizza and a bottle of prosecco. The onsite breakfast is an upgraded continental style breakfast served between 7:30am and 10:30am. If you get up early for a guided tour in town, you might leave before breakfast is served. There is no other food in the hotel minus a pizza/gelato place a block away and an italian restaurant that is closed the whole month of August. In summary, I would stay here again but next time consider renting a Vespa for a faster commute plus buying some groceries to keep in the mini fridge in the room.

Just 2 entieres days to visit Rome, it was a challenge. And we would sleeping in a "Villa" with modernity but romans caracters too: this hotel is the perfect match!
Crew very available, fast and always smilling.
The Tower Suite is a pure pleasure of confort, tranquility and relax on the patio.
Thanks, don't change anything!

My boyfriend and I just returned from a trip to Italy and Rome was our first stop. We decided to stay at Hotel Villa Duse and we were very happy with the decision. The room was incredibly comfortable, the facilities were great and the staff were so helpful with cabs and dinner reservations. It's a bit outside of the city centre but there are some nice spots to be found on Via Parioli which is just a 3 minute walk away. Next time we go back to Rome this will be our spot!

Excellent choice of a hotel. All points of service were right on. The concierge was extremely helpful and friendly and the rooms were spacious, decorated tastefully and comfortable. The bathroom towels were frette and added a sense of luxury. It is not located in the heart of the city, but I enjoyed the quiet neighborhood after exploring Rome. However, it is a short bus ride to get the heart and never found the commute an inconvenience. I would highly recommend this hotel for travelers who enjoy luxury and five star service without the price!

Yes, it is an oasis in the busy-ness of the city. Yes, it is in a beautiful neighborhood. Yes, it is far from the attractions. We had three rooms for a family trip to Rome: the tower room, the red suite, and a ground-room floor. After being in hot crowds for days, we were treated like rock stars. The HUGE patios allow you to have drinks and watch the stars. Great patio service and breakfast. Do not stay anywhere else if you want quiet, peace, and living la dolce vita!!!

Hotel Villa Duse is a high quality hotel outside the city centre. We stayed in the tower lodge room on the top floor, which was simply excellent. On the last morning we had breakfast on the terrace, and we wished we had ordered that every morning. The staff were both super helpful and knowledgeable. Its easy to reach the city by either walking through the park "Villa Borghese" or getting the bus/tram. Awesome stay, thank you very much.
