There were so many things we loved about this place I hardly know where to start. Here goes!

1. Amazing hosts: Kate, Sam and their team should actually write a book on how to make people feel welcome and at home while travelling - in two months of travelling through some great places, this was our top customer service experience. On arrival, Sam sat down and talked us through a map of top tourist attractions, how to get around, recommendations of favourite eateries (we tried some and agree with their recommendations!) and other useful information. They also advised which attractions to book in advance and helped with bookings. When we were leaving and it was pouring with rain, Sam dropped us to the train station himself. They also went to extreme lengths to help us deal with a courier company to retrieve an item misplaced earlier in the trip. I won't go into detail, suffice to say they went beyond the call of duty and then just kept on going....

2. Apartments: we took a terrace studio apartment, which was spacious, modern and very clean and had a large terrace looking out over a tree-covered hillside - the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine after a hard day's sight-seeing. The kitchen has everything you need to whip up a few good meals if like us you don't want to eat out every meal. The apartments are in a renovated block set around a nice courtyard with a fountain and resident terrapins.

3. Sleep quality: quiet neighbourhood, good sound insulation, quiet aircon and comfy beds - ten hours anyone?

4. Location: this apartment is in a friendly and not over-touristed neighbourhood a few stops on the metro from central Rome. The metro is about ten minutes walk and there are buses not far from the apartments as well. There is also a decent supermarket nearby. If you are only in Rome for 1-2 days or if you like to party all night you might want something more central, but we would definitely recommend this place for families and people who want to be close to the centre but still relax a bit.

5. Value for money: bluntly, nothing in Rome is cheap, but we thought that this place was great value for money.

Overall, highly recommended and we would definitely return.

Room Tip: We loved the terrace studio

BOY are we glad we stayed here (thanks Trip Advisor)! Affordable, spacious, clean, right on the bus line and a very short walk from the metro station, it was everything we hoped it would be and more.

I say more because although it's obviously an apartment, not a hotel, so you stay there expecting to fend for yourself. Yet the proprietors, Sam and Fabiana, are onsite most of the time -- their office is right off the (lovely) courtyard and they keep an open door, always willing to give advice about the city (restaurants, museums, parks etc), answer questions (about transit, grocery shopping, whatever you're needing to know) sell you a bus pass or just chat. Super helpful and friendly; they really made this place feel like home for the five days we were there.

We are a family of four (kids are 14 and 11) and we rented a one-bedroom apartment. The boys used the hide-a-bed in the living room. I think they have two-bedroom apartments too, but as we were gone most of the day every day, this was plenty of space for us.

The air conditioning was REALLY appreciated when we'd come back after a long day of sightseeing in the 90-degree August sun. We also loved relaxing on the balcony at night with a glass of wine, and the kids loved the turtles in the courtyard fountain. (We also met a really nice family from the Netherlands in the apartment next door; it was fun talking with them on the balcony about our respective trips.) I'm probably forgetting some of the things we loved about staying here, but suffice it to say we would stay here again in a heartbeat.

This accommodation was ideal for our family of 4. The interior was suitable and cleaned to a high standard every day. It was quiet both at night and in the early morning allowing us to recharge our batteries for the day ahead. Our children liked keeping an eye on the terapins in the fountain and welcomed the fact that the wi-fi worked at all times. Sam gave a thorough, extremely useful induction talk with advice on how to organise our stay in Rome which was most useful given the almost bewildering wealth of places to visit in Rome. Indeed, all staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The location was perfect for us: away from the hustle and bustle of the centre yet well- connected in terms of bus and metro allowing us to get to all areas of Rome. Sam can advise on bus routes. We tended to use the bus to go out in the day while at night we would get to any metro station on line A and then travel to Valle Aurelia metro station which is a ten minute walk from the appartment. The 1 week travel card for 24 euros for use on buses, metro, trams and trains represented excellent value. In terms of Rome, it's an amazing place with tons to do. You will do a lot of walking which can be tiring so I recommend using the transport to get you to places and do the walking when you get there e.g.the forum and palatine. Our children, girl 14, boy 17 most liked the Colosseum, the Catacombs, climbing to the top of St. Peter's and hiring bikes in the Villa Borghese. In terms of eating out we found Rome really expensive but in Trastevere, in the streets away from the central square, there are excellent, reasonably priced restaurants. Weather-wise, hot in day but surprisingly and refreshingly coolish from 6 or 7 in evening so an August holiday in Rome worked for us. All in all, i would strongly recommend these appartments which is why I have written my first ever review on this site.

I am Beatrice from Ferney Voltaire, France. We stayed at these apartments at the end of July and beginning of August for 7 nights with my 2 teenage sons, daughter of 5 years and toddler of 1.5 years. The apartments are very clean and serviced everyday. They have enough space and have a big balcony. The area around the apartments is green and quiet. The apartments are situated within walking distance to restaurants, supermarkets and a metro station. Unlike the apartments I used in other parts of Europe, where payment is before one's stay, at Aurelia, I decided to pay for the accommodation a day before my departure. the best thing I liked is the warmness of the staff. Sam, the owner, attended to us and gave us all the tips to survive in Rome. The information saved us time and money. We all enjoyed our stay and one of my teenage boys said we were welcomed more in Aurelia than elsewhere!

Room Tip: I did not visit other rooms but Apartment 3 close to the roadside was great!

This was our first time in Rome but staying at Aurelia Vatican apartments mad it easier for our family of 5. We simply didn't know what to expect. Sam arranged the airport pick up for us. A very convenient minivan with enough space for 5 people including 2 teenagers and several prices of luggage.

Supermarket, CONAD, close by (ten minute walk) was convenient for fresh supplies, water, bread and fruits. Staff were very helpful in arranging Guided Tours (English) for us to the Colosseum (antique Rome) district and for the Vatican tours. If you are planning to stay in Rome for a limited period as we did and you prefer a private guided tour, then it is advisable to arrange for tickets early. Staff were extremely helpful. We used taxis for our commute and staff were always on hand to call taxis for us. If you are a family of 5 like ours, they can call for a 5 seated taxi. Recommend that you always carry the small cards advertising the location of the apart, emts. We found that almost all the taxis we picked from town didn't know where the apartment was. Of course the GPS always comes in helpful.

My daughter was excited about the 2 horses. She was also introduced to a chiwawa by Sam and his brother. That was a major highlight for her as she loves dogs. The turtles in the fountain area was another hit with my daughter.

The international news channels were not available in our apartment during our stay which was a bit disappointing. I think it was a problem specific to our room. We did not report it though as I am sure it could have been rectified. Air conditioner positioned just above the main entrance into the apartment meant that there was condensation and dripping of water onto the tiles which could cause people to slip. Bathroom linen changed regularly.

Nice and cool area with deck chairs for early morning coffee or tea was one of our favorites. While the immediate vicinity looked a bit rundown, the proximity to all the major attractions more than compensates for this. The apartment block is in a quiet corner which suited our family very well.

Overall we are happy with our choice and would love to stay there again on the next visit to Rome. Recommended for families. The personal touch from Sam and his staff is definitely an important factor to consider. Always ready to assist.

Room Tip: Room 3 facing the next building is a great family apartment.

This accommodation is really lovely. Apartments are well proportioned and outlook to central area is very pretty with a lovely water fountain as a focal point? We stayed for one week in July with our teenage daughter on our first trip to Rome. She liked it too. The only negative point is not about the apartment itself but more about the area. There was a lack of nice restaurants in the vicinity and the surrounding flats and houses were a bit of a let down. Excellent transport into city centre though and fun to use the metro. Really good to catch the essence of busy Rome.

We (two adults, one toddler) stayed at Aurelia Vatican Apartments for a week in July 2013. It was our second stay here, and we very much enjoyed it. The area around is very peaceful, and great for people who would like to relax and unwind (and cook their own food). At the same time, there are buses nearby, and it does not take long to get to the city centre of Rome. Bus 495 takes you to the metro, but if you stay onboard longer, it continues to other places including Villa Borghese, which is extremely convenient for families.

For us, who normally live in a very big city, it was wonderful to wake up in the morning and find two horses grazing across the street. For tourists coming from rural areas, this may perhaps not seem as such a big deal, but for our daughter this was a real treat, as she ran out to feed the horses with grass every day.

As many reviewers have noted, the owners and their staff go out of their way to help. All our (many) questions and requests were addressed in a wonderful way, and we felt spoiled. Elsewhere in Rome, we found that the service was not always the best, but in this hotel, it was truly excellent. It is hard to describe good hospitality, but you know it when you experience it, as we did at Aurelia Vatican Apartments.

We would highly recommend this hotel to other travelers, particularly those who like to relax in a quiet, beautiful environment (while being in a city) and cook their own food.
