“View Rome from a Rooftop Hot Tub!”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

Who: My wife & I (mid 30s)
When: May 12-15
Where: Room 5
Why a "Very Good" Rating:

-Very unique property; it served as 13th century defensive tower. One room on each floor.
-Excellent location; about a 10 minute (hilly) walk from Cavour Metro, be warned if walking with suitcases it can be a hike with the hills and cobblestone. But the property is very convenient to the Via Novembre bus stop.
-Helpful & accommodating staff; Alvin prepares a great breakfast spread every morning with the most amazing blood orange juice on the rooftop terrace & Igor is very eager to assist you with travel plans & tips. We weren't aware our week metro pass also covered the buses; thanks Igor!
-Spacious room, with comfortable bed, large sofa and computer work station (w/ Internet)
-Bathroom a bit on the small side. Massaging shower was a bit confusing; it felt like you were getting into a rocket ship. To be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the shower.
-Very nice bathroom amenities, including slippers.
-Reasonably priced mini bar in room
-In room NESPRSSO machine was a very nice touch
-Free Rome Guide book & list of restaurant recommendations upon check in
-Last and certainly not least and perhaps the main reason we booked was the rooftop terrace with HOT TUB! Simply spectacular views of the Victor Emmanuel monument.

I'd be remiss if I did not recognize the owner/manager Sarah for treating my wife and I to a bottle of Champagne when she learned that our visit to Rome was two-fold; we were celebrating our anniversary and we were participating in volunteer work in the city. THANK YOU SARAH!

Additional Notes:
-There are promotional discounts if you book through their website (there is also an offer for a free bottle of Prosecco!); the discounts are helpful considering the rates are a little pricey.
-Other reviewers have mentioned it but worth noting again that the walk up to the roof top terrace is up an extremely winding glass staircase; in addition some of the glass steps looked a bit cracked and weathered. It seemed there were some contractors there during our visit examining the steps.
-We noticed a strange odor on the terrace some mornings and in the evening when we tried the hot tub but we could not make out the source.

Overall, Torre Colonna is a solid "Very Good" with only a few minor details holding it back from an "Excellent." However; I would still highly recommend treating yourself to this unique B&B experience.

Room Tip: Room 5 is spacious with comfortable bed, couch and computer work station with internet. Also includ...

My fiance and I stayed here for 2 nights post cruise in April 2013. We like finding unusual properties to stay at and the Torre Colonna fitted the bill perfectly being a converted medieval tower! We stayed in room 2, the Yellow Room... we communicated with the hotel prior to checking in as we would be getting here relatively early after our cruise docked in Civitavecchia. Our room was ready so that was a bonus and we were checked in swiftly with maps and a book and advised to make restaurant reservations for Saturday in Rome.
The room was fabulous, well decorated and the free internet access was a bonus. The bathroom was very modern with a jacuzzi which we were grateful for after so much walking around Rome.
All the staff were very friendly and breakfast was delicious, you could have a boiled egg cooked for you. The meats and cheeses were great quality, you could even have smoked salmon as well. All served up on the roof terrace.
The hotel is excellently situated in Rome.
We enjoyed our stay a lot and hope to be back one day.

My colleagues and I stayed in this great hotel for 4 Nights in April and we were very satisfied, especially with the staff! Sara, the owner was very helpful and very friendly. We could ask her for help with anything from booking tickets to the opera to restaurant recommendations.
Igor and Alvin (staff) were just lovely! Always smiling, always ready to help.
We will never forget the delicious breakfasts at the roof terrace with Alvins amazing fresh made juice and exceptional coffe, overlooking all the landmarks of Rome.
Thanks a lot to all you guys for making our stay a real memorable one :-)

My husband and I stayed here for three nights during our honeymoon earlier this month. We stayed in room 2 (the "yellow" room) with a big bathroom with jacuzzi tub and a walk in closet. The room was lovely, as was the roof top terrace. The best part of this hotel, however, was the customer service. At one point, we asked for an iron and were brought the personal iron and ironing board from the man who worked at the hotel. Very accommodating! Hotel is in prime location to many sites, which is very helpful. My only concern was that you could hear other people in the hotel if they were being loud and when they were on the stairs - not too bad, but something to note. Would stay here again and would recommend for a trip in Rome.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights on our honeymoon. It’s quite a unique set-up, in a converted Medieval tower. There’s one room on each floor, and a great roof terrace with views across the city. The Jacuzzi up on the terrace is an added bonus, too – great for chilling out after walking miles around all the sites! The terrace is open 24 hours, too, so you can head up for a drink after dinner. Only bad thing is that they put coverings over the sides to stop the wind at night – when people start smoking it quickly becomes very smoky and unpleasant for non-smokers.

The staff were great, always smiling and ready to help. Sarah (the owner) was really helpful with all my email enquiries before we arrived, and got us a bottle of Champagne to celebrate the honeymoon which was lovely.

We stayed in room 3 which had an amazing painted and beamed ceiling, a big bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath, and a separate walk-in wardrobe. As well as free wi-fi, there’s also a computer in the room, and you can print documents to the reception printer (really helpful for boarding passes, train tickets etc).

The location is fantastic – we walked everywhere, even to the Vatican. You can get to the Colosseum, Forum, Pantheon and Trevi Fountain in about 10 minutes. The train station isn’t too far – we walked on arrival (20 mins) but it was a bit hillier than we expected so I wouldn’t recommend it with suitcases! Taxi back to the station costs 10euros.

My husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in April with 3 days in Paris, 2 days in Rome and a 10 day Mediterranean cruise.

The 2 days in Rome were the highlight of our trip because of our stay at Rezidenza Torre Colonna. Sarah, the lovely owner, helped us celebrate with a bottle of Champagne which we took up to the fantastic roof terrace and enjoyed with the hot tub & surreal views of the Colliseum and Piazza Venezia !
Alvin was a joy every morning, treating us to delicious fresh squeezed orange juice , great coffee, boiled eggs and an array of cheeses, prosciutto, salami , pastries and fruit.
He recommended a great local restaurant around the corner and actually walked us over - the best Sicillian cannoli in Rome !
Igor was very professional, friendly, and a great source of information!
A very unique and exciting experience !
Would return tomorrow !!!
many thanks to all of you !
warm greetings from north of the Toronto area, Canada- Wayne & Mariana :-)
