"I stumbled across this restaurant" is the way most reviewers have found Il Ponentino. As did we. We were looking for a late, light dinner while exploring Trastevere on a Saturday night. Yes, there are a lot of tourists, but they are the interesting kind you want to strike up a conversation with— two girls traveling solo from England to Turkey; an American painter finishing up her year of study in Rome, a table of Canadians who... well it doesn't matter. Don't expect fine dining but damn good pizzas and salad and inexpensive wine/beer. The waitstaff gets into the relaxed, friendly vibe but are efficient enough. The only caveat might be is the location on a back street; you will not be seeing many passersby. Great value! Absolutely good enough food! And a delightful Roman experience.
