“Fantastic view, spoilt by uninspiring and expensive food”
Reviewed June 20, 2011

Very excited about our dinner at the rooftop restaurant - we noted that prices were not provided at reception and later learned that the majority of starters were > €20!! Enjoyed the experience but massively overpriced evening. Total was €95 for two, with one starter, two main courses, and half a bottle of wine. We could have had two nights meals of better quality next door for the same price!

“The most horrible food in Rome, non ho mai mangiato un menu così orribile”
Reviewed May 10, 2011

When we came into the restaurant nobody paid attention to us, than we got the menu , the food really sounded good. There where truffels on the menu and pasta...but when we wanted to order the dishes, the verrrry verrry unkind waiter told us that nearly half of the menu is already finished. But the most horrible thing beside the waiter beside the location beside the drinks, was the food. i have chosen a filet. what i got was a impudence. to be honest with you, it was horrrible, i have made fotos, and i will put it on this side because the hotel has 4 stars, i think its sooo ridiculous.
We had dinner at the Hassler hotel one day before and it was a dream.
I will never ever in my hole life have dinner in this trashy "restaurant" i will rather eat a hot dog, and let me tell you something , i would pay 1000 Euro if i don't have to eat a meal in the Restaurant Les Etoiles.

“excellent food!! awesome view... price was appropriate for tourist area!!!”
Reviewed April 26, 2011

After reading the other reviews, I almost canceled my reservations, but it was Easter weekend and I didn't want to fight the crowds or holiday tourist prices.

First, the view is awesome and they do try to put as many tables facing the chairs towards the windows and even opened a window so a young woman could take a picture. A place with this kind of view anywhere will cost you!!

Second, the food was incredible! Artichokes warm with ricotta and feta appetizer, pasta with sausage and truffle, complimentary champagne to start with, mineral water. excellent cappuccino to finish. ( I don't even like coffee, but when in Rome......it's yummy!! have one!!)

Third - Excellent service...for EUROPE. EUROPEANS do not choke down their food - all courses in half an hour. That's the American way.. Meals here are meant to be savored with conversations and wine between courses. You will get refills promptly, but the courses come when they will, as does the bill. If you eat here, expect it to be a slow relaxing event. Enjoy the company and the food. We got similar service at Cafe's and Restaurants in GREECE, TURKEY, and ITALY!! What's the Rush? ITS A VACATION!!!!!!

Forth - the food was worth the price. We did as Rick Steves suggests and just ordered 2 courses, appetizers and pasta. That's the best of Italy anyways. It keeps the cost down and more than that is too much food. The meat courses are probably just as good, but not always that different from home. We would have loved dessert, but after all that food, we could only bring ourselves to order cappuccinos. It is a special dinner. Treat it that way. And beware, we spent $80 the next night at a nearby restaurant for a much worse meal and $48 for lunch the day before at a Cafe for tourist by the vatican that had great food but way overpriced.
So 80 Euros for an excellent meal with champagne and a great view doesn't seem so bad anymore!!

casual dressy attire. leave shorts flip flops jeans in your room!!!

“Wonderful experience”
Reviewed January 14, 2011

On Christmas day we brought a group of 30 people from a US school to Les Etoiles restaurant. We had arranged a reservation about a month in advance. Everything was very good, starting with the attention of the waiters, the service as a whole was also very good and according to our expectations. The food was delicious; Chef Marco arranged a special menu according to the occasion that included a variety of tasty dishes and a well balanced and nutritious meal. The view of St. Peter's Basilica from the roof garden is very nice and the restaurant is only 7 minutes walking distance from St. Peter's square.
