It's hard to find a restaurant where meat and fish are served like at this place...I got some pasta with bottarga (fish's eggs) and it couldn't have been more delicious, and the meat is perfectly grilled and flavored. Don't miss the got chocolate cake prepared by the owner.

Mostly Italians frequent this place which is in the basement. In the evening the restaurant opens at 7 PM. Main dishes are reasonably priced. Tried Rigatoni ala Amatriciana, 9 Euro, which is a very el dente pasta cooked inside a tub of Pecorino cheese. A mushroom thin crust pizza costs 6.5 Euro. The profit leaders are desserts, a creamy Tiramisu costs 6 Euros, and bread basket at 1.5 Euro/person. The Mista salad is 4 Euro.

We were trying quite hard to escape fellow tourists after our visit to the Vatican and were walking North from the Ottaviano Metro station into a residential area when we came across Il Ciociaro and stopped for lunch in their outside dining area on the street. What a surprise! A zuccini flower and anchovy pizza was probably the best thin crust pizza I've been served anywhere in the world whilst my wife's fettuccini was Italian pasta at its best. Both were 8 euros each so add in a small carafe of wine at 4 euros, two salads at 4 euros each, a large bottle of water at 2 1/2 euros and bread at 3 euros and you get a fantastic lunch for 33 1/2 euros. It was so good that we went back on our last day in Rome and again it was excellent.

Loved the beef there 2 years ago... Went to Florence and did not eat such good beef. Back this october to ciociaro and again had the best florentine beef! Top marks!
