We ate here on Saturday 24th November at the recommendation of our hotel. We had a really delightful meal, wholesome, fresh and very tasty. The staff were really pleasant and welcoming, the tables with fresh red and white tablecloths the wine very good too. We would certainly eat here again.

We had dinner in this restaurant, food was extremely salty and the portion size was a bit small. Service was okay and staff was nice.

It can be difficult to know where to eat in the shadow of the Colosseum but Il Bocconcino, a more refined incarnation of a Roman trattoria, is a restaurant I keep going back to. You might recognise some of the pasta dishes from the Roman tradition but other options, from an exquisite eggplant savory tart to the animelle - sweetmeats cooked in marsala - are above and beyond the standard Roman fare, with the latter inspired by ancient Roman recipes. Other recipes draw their origins from hearty home cooking - including a juicy rabbit stew - while one of the deserts is named after the owner's mother, coming from a recipes passed down through the family. Prices are good for the location and quality of the food and daily specials mean that you can come back and be pleasantly suprised each time. Great way to avoid the tourist traps in the streets behind the Colosseum.

We went to Il Bocconcino on two consecutive evenings, and were satisfied both times, having tried both pasta and meat. This is not a restaurant with tourist menu, but what you get is authentic and seasonal menu, for reasonable prices. We tried also vino della casa and it passed the test too. Just around the corner, you will find flashier restaurants with much higher prices, as they are facing Colosseum, but this one is no worse in quality and pleasantly hidden in a small side street, sheltered from all the buzz surrounding the Colosseum.

I had dinner with my wife during our trip to Rome. Food is good certainly not the best in Rome. Pasta was good with average portion size. The rabbit plate was good also. It is a good restaurant if you stay near the colosseum.
