Recently stayed four nights at Blue Hostel and highly recommend it. It is close to Termini, and easy walking distance to the Colosseum and the Forum. While the rooms are not three star, they are quaint, comfortable, cosy and clean. I believe they all have a window out onto the internal garden/courtyard. The service from the owner/manager is minimalist but always efficient and helpful. For 135 Euros a night this is a great value hotel. Those with an aversion to stairs should seek a room elsewhere (although it is only two flights...) and the rooms might not be large enough for families. However, we would definitely recommend Blue Hostel and will stay there again next time in Rome.
