“Great value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2014

The hostel isn't in the centre of town, but it doesn't take that long to walk to the main station, termini. The service was friendly and there was breakfast every day. The rooms were adequate and clean. Excellent value for money. Would recommend.

The City Hostel is really an apartment in a regular building that's been converted into a hostel. It's located in the University area - which means there are a lot of dining options (Pizza Cinque has all-you-can-eat pizza for 5 euros), convenient transport facilities (bus stop and metro station close by) and it's not too expensive.

The bed was quite comfortable and they provide a locker to keep stuff. Do carry your own locks - you'll need that across Italy. I went during the off-season so I got a room for 4 all to myself. The breakfast is decent - some cereal, croissants and tea.

They were also nice enough to allow me to check in early and leave my stuff behind even after I had checked out. I'm not sure if they can afford this luxury when there a lot of tourists, but you can sure try. The guys at the hostel are really helpful and speak good english, so they can be useful in planning your day in Rome

Room Tip: They're all the same - the only option is lower bed or higher bunk bed

i stayed there 5 nights in Nov. it's a small hostel not in the city centre but it's also very easy to get to by metro (only 15mins or so). by the meaning of it, it's located in a non-touristic area and it's perfect for those who wanna escape from the tourists and the crowd and "tourist's price". it's a small hostel, making up 20 something bed max. so don't expect it's a big hostel with a huge common area and game room or balcony to hang but instead you get everything's so reachable and the intimate feeling like home! the hostel got everything you need, comfy room, lockers in room, wi-fi and computer, kitchen (small but nice), clean showers and toilets. staff in there are completely awesome, especially Mila and Guil! they are super friendly, helpful and caring. and i did appreciate that while they did long hour shift sometimes! what more can you expect from a hostel in Rome?

Rome City Hostel is just a short metro ride away from all the big famous attractions and located within walking distance to both major train stations. Located in the university district, you feel like you're actually living in Rome rather than just visiting. The staff are fantastic and super helpful and the rooms are large and clean. The wifi signal is strong all throughout the hostel (a feature that was often missing in Europe). As well there is fantastic (cheap!) pizza, pasta and gelato just across the street. You have to buzz to get in every time you come back which kind of feels like you're interrupting the staff but it's really nice to be greeted personally every time you return. I was there for four nights and I'll definitely go back next time I'm in Rome.

Room Tip: Not all the rooms have bathrooms. If it's an issue for you, you can pay an extra euro or two a n...

Stayed here on my visit to Rome, im a backpacker so wanted a cheap place to stay to visit the city and to meet some people so i chose this hostel. The place was small but clean and safe in a nice area where all the students live called La sapienza and near local bar area San lorenzo. Has a good time the breakfast was good the staff were friendly and bedroom was fine in a dorm with 3 other people. Met some nice people there who i will stay in contact with.

The hostel is located around 20 minutes from Termini station. Nearest bus stop is right by the entrance to the hostel, and it takes around 7-10 minutes to get to Termini. If you prefer subway, it takes up to 10 minutes to walk to Policlinico or Bologna metro stations.

The rooms are quite simple, bathrooms could be cleaner, but in general the hostel offers all I needed during three-day stay in Rome on a tight budget. If you're looking for a place just to lay your head down for the night, with no frills, that's the place to recommend.

We stayed here for two nights in October. While it is a bit far out of the centre of Rome it is within 10 minutes walk to two metro stations and also has a bus stop handy. We were of the impression that we had booked a women's only room but when we arrived we were in a mixed dorm. This wasn't a big deal but something to keep in mind if you want a women's only dorm. The rooms are small with bunks but there was no rail on the top bunks. There were lockers provided but you need to provide your own lock. Breakfast was provided. Stock standard European breakfast of cereals, breads, juices and cake. There was kitchen facilities to prepare food if you desire. Clean and hygienic shared bathroom facilities. The staff were efficient and happy to help with directions. The lady (can't remember her name) was enthusiastic in recommending one of her favourite restaurants. Hearing her talk about it we just had to try it out and it was delicious! A real local experience which was great!

Down side - there are no locks on the rooms, they are just left open throughout the day. They were safe but sometimes made us feel a little uneasy.
