Beau Site - Antica Residenza
Ranked #604 of 1,271 Hotels in Rome
Reviewed September 1, 2012

My cousin and I stayed at Beau Site for 4 days and had a lovely stay. As many of the reviews said, the location is great, with an "easy" walk to the Spanish Steps, Via Veneto, Fontana de Trevi, the shopping areas and most other key Rome sites. The train that stopped closest to the hotel wasn't working the week when we were there, but we managed with just walking most everywhere. The few times we did need a cab, Fabrizzio and Linda would call a cab for us and it would arrive in less than 5 minutes, every single time. It was great. Very little time wasted.

The hotel itself is on a quiet tree-lined street and is on the 2nd (and 3rd?) floors of a beautiful old building. It doesn't even look like a hotel from the outside, so if traveling by taxi, it's good to remember the building number. Most cabs will know Via Ludovisi. I thought It was very charming. We had a rental car on the first day because we went to Tuscany first and didn't have too difficult a time finding the hotel. There was also plenty of street parking, and a parking structure a few meters away. When we returned the rental car, we took the express train back to the city. From Termini, it was a 20-30 minute walk back to the hotel passing the Santa Maria Maggiore, Quattro Fontani, Piazza Tritone and a few other landmarks.

For our stay, Fabrizio upgraded us to a deluxe room which had a lovely view of the Istituto Svizzero di Roma. The A/C was perfect, because we had some hot days in Rome, and coming back to a cool room after a lot of walking was just heaven.

Other pluses:
1) Free internet! Yes!
2) Breakfast area was a lovely sunny area. It's pretty simple continental style with breads, cold cuts, jams, yogurts, etc. Eggs, hot chocolate and a few other things were additional $, but what was available is sufficient and tasty.
3) There's always someone greeting us hello and goodbye, which makes it feel very welcoming and homey. Fabrizio and his staff are very warm and sincere.
4) Some nice restaurants nearby, although beware of the ones in Via Veneto. Pricey and touristy.
5) Always felt safe walking around at night and the hotel felt very secure with secured entry in the front and secure entry once you get to the hotel on the second floor.
6) Items in mini-bar were affordable. We mostly just drank the water, but there was beer and prosecco in there, too.

Some maybe-negatives:
1) The place is kept very clean, although one of the days, the cleaning lady left some of her cleaning items in our room (a duster, a rag). I'm not picky about these things but some people might find that annoying. For me, it means she came into clean and actually used these things!
2) We were on the 2nd floor with a room near the breakfast area. If someone rang the bell at night, we could hear it pretty loudly. I think we were so exhausted most nights (or we were those late night people on others!) that it wasn't a big deal, but again, something that some people might find annoying.
3) No tub in our room, but we're not bath people. The bathroom was so spacious and clean with all the necessary amenities.
4) Smallest elevator known to man. But, we used the stairs 95% of the time, so no big deal. (The stairs by the way are gorgeous marble steps. Very old world Italian.)

Quick tip: If you walk down from the hotel on Via Francesco Crispi and turn right at Via di Capo le Case, there is a small cafe/gelati place called Cafe Nobel (next to a Pizzeria). They have THE BEST gelati in the area. It is SO GOOD. You can taste the fresh fruit and real chocolate, etc. This place was so good we went back every single night, on the way back to the hotel. (And sometimes, twice.) It made the uphill walk to the hotel go by fast! Buy a gelati, walk to hotel, by the time you get there, it's finished. Perfect.

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for your very useful review! We appreciate much compliments but, ost of all, we appreciate good and constructive critics.

By the way, I'm afraid that the title of your nice and detailed review isn't much proper for the content of it, just because the italian word "pensione" means the opposite of what Beau Site is!

Anyway we'd like to thank you again for your lovely words about us.

Looking forward to have you here again,

Best Regards

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Beau Site during august of 2012.It was ideally located to visit all of the sites in Rome especially the Spanish steps. We had excellent advise from our hosts and visited almost all of the sites and many more that are not on the main tourist map. We were able to walk to everywhere and only took taxis to go to and from the hotel/termini at the beginning and end of the holiday. The breakfast was disappointing but is the only area for improvement. We were surrounded by cafes and restaurants and had good food at reasonable prices. We felt well looked after by our warm welcoming hosts and are very happy to recommend the Beau site to anyone visiting Rome. Arrivederci Roma!

I am happy to be able to give an outstanding rating to one of the best hotels that I have stayed at in Europe. I was able to get my room at BEAU SITE because I used miles from BRITISH AIRWAYS to book the room. When B.A. recommended the hotel, I figured that it would be a great choice. I was not disappointed. When I say home away from home, I am talking about the warm atmosphere of the hosts Fabrizio and Linda. Their associate PAOLO was outstanding, as well.

i arrived at the hotel at night and was very tired from walking from the subway stop Barberini. This was a mistake. If you arrive at TERMINI, take a taxi!!! The route from BARBERINI station was all up hill.

BEAU SITE is a "pensione" style hotel. It is located on the second floor of a beautiful building. When I arrived, Paolo was very gracious and gave me a bottle of water. I really needed the water. My room was beautiful, with the nicest bathroom that I had ever stayed in during a European stay( I do not stay at 5 star hotels). Everything that I needed was in the room, including a large safe(for my computer) and a refrigerator with reasonably-priced drinks. One of the nicest features of the hotel is the "free" internet. That's a real bonus.

The breakfast room was charming and was very well stocked with delicious, fresh items. One day, I ordered scrambled eggs(extra charge) and they were delicious. When breakfast is not being served, one can sit in the breakfast room and work or relax.

On my last night, Fabrizio asked to change my room and he "upgraded" me to a beautiful room facing VIA LUDOVISI.

My first morning out of the hotel, I did the walk to the Spanish steps which is a very pleasant one. You pass the BORGHESI gardens and see beautiful stores. There is a subway stop at the SPANISH STEPS, but, unfortunately, the subway was closed until the 25th of August. That made life a little tougher, but still bearable because walking for miles in ROMA is easy.

So, if you would love a wonderful hotel, right off the Via VENETO in ROMA, choose the BEAU SITE. LINDA and FABRIZIO will make you feel at home and will do anything to see to your comfort. Grazie Fabrizio, Linda e Paolo!!!!

Very tasteful and comfortable in a great location. Staff went out of their way to meet our needs. The double deluxe room is more spacious than the standard room and has a bath tub.
Would definitely stay again if we ever return to Rome.

Nice location, very close to spanish steps!
The room was clean and has good soundproofing.
The curtains were not able to hide the sunlight and i could't sleep at noon and the air condition made a little noise.
About the breakfast..it was very disappointing, some of the products were not fresh (and believe me i can tell when something is fresh or not...) and the others were low quality.. it was the worst breakfast we had in fifteen days stay in Italy.

Dear Nantia,

thank you so much for your kind review, we really appreciated your sincerity.

I'm apologize about the breakfast because we served fresh food every morning. Cold cuts are sliced every day and we cook every morning the best croissant selection from "Tre Marie" Company (one of the best in Italy). Also the fruit is bought every 2 days to guarantee the freshness to all our guests.

Regarding the curtain, it works well and I'm sorry if you couldn't sleep at noon (I love darkness in the morning like you and I understand what you mean, that's why all our rooms have curtains that darken the room).

However, we really appreciate your feedback because it's very important to improve our service and quality.

Hope to see you again as our guest soon!

Brest Wishes

Small hotel with nice athmosphere and very helpful staff! We spent our 4-day holiday in Rome and this Hotel was good for us with good location, clean nice rooms, silent area and cozy feeling! Many points of interests can be reached by walk and metro station was near.

We enjoyed everything from the moment we arrived and were greeted and assisted with our luggage. Our room was clean, comfortable and of good size, considering the central location and vintage of the building housig the hotel. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful with tips on getting around, local points of interest and places to eat and shop.
Highly recommmended.
