“Great value and very welcoming”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

The B&B is in a great location, conveniently located within walking distance of Termini Station. Emily, the landlady, was very welcoming and super nice... she made us coffee and breakfast every morning and was very helpful. I got the flu on our last day and she was very caring and gave me plenty of packs of tissues for our flight.

Emily was great. She is a Filipino who has been staying here for 22 years.

We stayed May-June 2012 for 4 nights, shared bath, at Euro65/night with breakfast.

Pros:
Located near Termini
Near water location (free drinking water in Rome..actually in most tourist spots!)
Supermarket at Termini
Loads of food available around
Good service from Emily
Simple but sufficient breakfast
Clean towels (really white ones and thick)
Clean bathrooms
Clean beds

Cons
Streets are noisy (if you are really a light sleeper...I think this isn't for you BUT if you are like ms who is a light sleeper however got tired from all the walking...you probably knock out)
Shower was small even for my husband (we are Asian). For me was okay.

Overall I will recommend this place ESP if you are particular with cleanliness...this place is Very clean!

We got a shared bathroom for Euro65/night. Our room was the smallest in the apartment but sufficient for us.

The owner is Emily, a Filipino. Sweet lady. The place was clean to Asian standard and breakfast was simple but sufficient for us. We stayed during May-Jun 2012.

Both husband and I are petite for Asian. So the bathroom shower size for my husband was small. For bigger size, you might find it a squeeze.

It's located in a place where at night there is still traffic and abit of noise. If you are a light sleep (seriously light sleeper), I really discourage you to stay there. But if you are like me (I am a light sleeper) who after a long day in Rome...anything can knock you out. Then it's fine.

The lift is small. But seriously I think most lift is small in Italy! Bed was abit soft however comfortable for me. :)

Emily was very helpful. Thumbs up for her service and keeping the place clean. Oh, I love the thick white towels for bath!

Our room was huge and warm (it was winter) and we shared the bathroom with another couple, but it was always clean and it was no problem. There was a TV in the room and internet access. Breakfast was good, the kitchen is avaiable for cooking at lunch or dinner, and they let you use the fridge. People were very nice, helpful and they gave us some tips of places to go in the city. It has a great location, near to Termini, you can walk or catch the subway or bus very easily and there are also good places to eat there. We enjoyed it very much, it was an amazing start for our backpacking trip. :)

Looking for a clean and comfortable place to stay in Rome near the Termini station, look no further. Emily is so very helpful and her breakfast is really substantial. The shower is however very tiny and larger people may struggle to get in and out. Earplugs are a MUST as there is a lot of traffic noise. Great value for those on a tight budget! Would I return, most definitely : )

Emily and Marco are a lovely couple. Emily is very friendly and helps with any questions you might have. She lays on breakfast in the mornings; continental style. If she is not available, her brother is on hand to help.

The room is ok in size & kept very clean. The bathroom has a small shower shared with another room but we didn't have any problems at all with clashing times!!

The B&B is located just 5 minutes away from the Termini which made navigating around Rome really easy.

We purchased a travel card for the bus and metro for €11. Made good use of it!

A lovely stay - only criticism I would make is that the roads are loud at night; so either tire yourself out walking the streets of Rome, or get drunk on the fabulous wine ... Otherwise you will not sleep!!

Enjoy! X

This was our first B&B experience on our trip, that was not only family-run, but inside a huge flat on the second floor of an older building. It turned out to be really nice with a cozy local-style decor. Loved just looking out the shuttered window at the stone street below and enjoyed the smells of cooking.

The family was great to us: we were checked in and oriented by a son; 'mom' arrived first thing every morning to make us breakfast and clean our room and give helpful concierge information, even allowing us access to her computer; 'pop' provides a handy airport taxi service too. Breakfast was standard modest, Italian style: primarily croissants and espresso.

The location's proximity to Roma Termini station -- the hub of all local and regional transit as well as Eurail -- simply can't be beat. A couple notes for arrival: we found this out the hard way. There are streets of the same name preceeded by "Via" and "Viale". If you find yourself on the "Viale", you've walked too far from the station.

Simple directions from Roma Termini station:

Walk out the back entrance, turn immediately right, walk to the end of the station on that block. Turn immediately left -- this is Via di Castro Pretorio. Walk 1 1/2 blocks to the B&B entrance directly on the left side of the street. The numbers are confusing and there is no large awning or signage for the B&B; read the flat numbers carefully to find it. Travel books caution about walking behind the station, but we found no problem at all, even at night. It is a sleeping spot for the homeless, but they seemed more concerned about us bothering them.

Another note about location. It's at Roma Termini where you catch the express train to the airport. Buy your ticket the day before and allow lots of time to get from the B&B to the actual train because, even though the station is not more than ten minutes fromt the B&B, the actual train platform is a full 15 minute walk once inside the station.

Would definitely recommend staying at Tropical as a really pleasant, local, find.

Room Tip: Not sure what other bathrooms are available in the B&B. Our room had a nice ensuite but just on...
