“Perfect location & Beautiful/roomy accommodations”
Reviewed April 30, 2012

We went on a family trip to Rome and staid at Romeo al Babuino on a recommendation from a friend that had staid there before - it could not have been more perfect in regard to location, upscale amenities (rain shower head :), privacy from hotel staff and other guests, and it was nice and roomy for 3 travelers with plenty of space to lounge and relax in the living room. The beds were extremely comfortable - even the cot had a memory foam mattress. The proximity to the Villa del Corso was perfect - So, we could either walk down this main road in Rome to get just about anywhere in regard to site seeing, or take the 117 bus, or hop on the metro at Spagna or up at the Plaza del Popolo to see Vatican City. The staff is also very tentative if needed, and called our room in advance of our checkout (based on earlier flight information given) to schedule us a car to the airport (for a much cheaper price than if we had hopped in a taxi). I would recommend this location to anyone traveling to Rome for a few days - definitely worth the price!

Room Tip: The Armanda Suite was the perfect amount of space for 3 travelers

Romeo al Babuino is perfectly located between the Spanish steps and the Piazza del Popolo. It is in the heart of the upscale shopping in Rome. The "hotel" sneaks up on you with a small sign and a confusing entrance. It is actually one floor of an apartment building but do not let that deter you. The pwner Giulio has done an excellent job turning this into a very modern apartment style hotel which is great for short stays. The furnishings are modern and well done. As with most things in Italy the tile and architecture are extremely stylish. The free wifi is a plus as is the free international calling (1st 15 minutes only). The room was bigger than most in Europe and the bed was a true queen which was nice.
The location is unbeatable and that makes the price more tolerable. You are really renting an apartment and there are no hotel amenities besides free coffee and tea. The elevator to bring your bags to the 3rd floor (they call it the 2nd because in Europe the 1st floor is 0) may be the smallest elevator in history.with taxes and 1 guest it was about 190 euros for a weekend night in April. We had a suite which was fine. Overall it is a nice place to stay but if I was here longer than one night I would suggest negotiating the price.

Room Tip: The apartment is on floor 3 and you will need to buzz that floor. Also for 40 euros they will send a...

We booked two of the rooms (Anna and Armanda) for ourselves and my wife's parents. The rooms were modern and very spacious. Both had separate seating areas and large beds.

The only negative was the shower in the Anna suite, which was very small and left the floor wet after each use.

Some street noise could be heard during the day and a little at night, but didn't cause a problem as it wasn't the busiest street.

Use of the Nespresso coffee machine and the complimentary chocolates and cakes was good.
The minibar in the room was very reasonably priced and well stocked with drinks.

The property was very well located and only 5 minutes walk from the Spanish Steps. There is also somewhere nearby for breakfast and dinner (Via Vittoria).

Giulio was very helpful and booked a taxi from the airport for us and another for the return trip. He also made a reservation for dinner on the first night.

Great place to stay and would stay again when visiting Rome.

Room Tip: Armanda suite was a larger room than the Anna suite.

Our trip to Rome was made so much more enjoyable by having a place as comfortable as the Romeo al Babuino to return to in the evenings! The Amanda suite is large and spacious, with high ceiling and a separate sitting area. Our request for an extra bed was readily accomodated and all 4 of us could fit comfortably.

Ideally located roughly equidistant from the Spanish Steps and the Piazza del Popolo, Romeo was a very convenient base from which to explore Rome. We regularly caught taxis from the Piazza del Popolo and just enjoyed strolling down the charming cobblestone streets. You know you're staying in the ideal neighborhood when Chanel, Tiffany's and Jo Malone are on the same street as your hotel!

Romeo al Babuino is ideal if you prefer boutique hotels with a personal touch. The collection of travel guides, chocolates, almond biscuits and Nespresso at the entrance was a welcome touch that took the hospitality at Romeo to the next level! Thanks Guilio!

We stayed in the Armada suite for 9 nights. Great windows, spacious, clean and safe. We simply loved the idea that we had our own key to this small appartment building. Made us feel at home. The street is busy enough and we felt very safe in this neibourghood. We are used to traveling so did not need the help of a concierge. Julio was very kind and helpful. The pre-aranged transportation was such a great idea. All went well. The only small drawback (as no hotel stay is ever 100% perfect) is that it can be a bit noisy in the morning as the windows are not completely soundproof and the rooms face the street. But again, if you are staying in the central part of any big city this is a very common thing. The hotel is so inexpensive and has tons of advantages. Incredible value! Bathroom and closets were great, especially for European standards. Again, we can't emphasize enough the incredible location; we would strongly recommend it!

We stayed there for 3 nights. The location is perfect since it is very close to the Spanish Steps (5 minutes walk), Piazza del Popolo (2-3 minutes walk) and generally to the main area of Rome’s historic centre.

The suite was quite spacious, very clean with a great modern décor and a nice shower. You feel that you are staying in your own apartment and not in a hotel. Great value for money!!

The staff is very friendly. Even if the hotel reception and house keeping are part time employees, they are always available if any assistance is needed. One night there was an electricity problem and even if we had to wait for a couple of hours to be fixed (since the person in charge was a little far away) the staff was very warm and helpful.

We enjoyed the complimentary Nespresso machine that you could use at any time in the corridor together with cakes and chocolates….so nice!!

A taxi service is provided at a logical price which is very convenient especially if you are traveling very early in the morning.

We would definitely stay again…

My wife and I were extremely pleased with the accommodations offered at Romeo al Babuino. Being our first trip to Rome, we did not want to pay a lot to see an overpriced hotel; we wanted to see Rome! This was the perfect place. Located in the heart of Rome in a "boutique" section between the famous Spanish Steps and the Piazza del Popolo, this bed and breakfast is walking distance, or a short cab ride to all the major attractions. As far as the physical accommodations, my wife said that she chose the smallest room, and it turned out to be a large suite! It was very clean, comfortable, and modern in both decor and functionality. It's best features were it's extremely high ceilings, beautiful casement windows, comfortable seating area with HD tv, and a very modern bathroom! It's funny, but probably the best feature of this place was Giulio-- we figured he was the owner-- who was the sweetest, most helpful man! He was waiting to greet us when we first arrived, explained everything we needed to know, was available for any questions, advise or arrangements; and he was there to see us off several days later. By the way, my other favorite feature was the free espresso machine in the hallway. I must also mention that this is not like the typical American bed and breakfast; it is very respectful toward privacy, and we rarely saw or heard any others except for the very nice housekeeping lady.
