Owner description: When In Rome Tours is a collective of like-minded tourism industry professionals, comprising company directors, two business managers, several admins, and dedicated support staff. Our Rome tour guides are fully licensed and have been leading Rome walks for many years in both English and native Spanish. Instead of working for a corporate tours provider on a commission basis, we have worked our way up over the years to become Rome's leading independently established tour operator. There are no middlemen, book a Rome or Vatican walking tour with us and you will tour WITH US. In this way, you get value for money with no extra costs at any stage. Our guides are experts in their chosen field, be they art historians or archaeologists. Our primary aim is to deliver education about Rome and the Vatican in an enjoyable way, so we take great care to ensure that our guides are as personable as they are professional. Small group tours of Rome work well for everyone and they are our focus. If, however, you wish to book a fully private and exclusive tour, we have many private Rome tour options for you to consider. As a fully licensed tour agency in Rome, we have to bear considerable operating costs as anyone working in Italy will tell you, so we are very proud to announce that our prices continue to be as competitive today as they always have been. In order to be fully transparent, tour costs on our website include all tickets and all local taxes - there is never anything else to pay over and above the prices we publish online. One of our many guarantees is "skip the Vatican line". The same also applies to our ancient Rome tours - "skip the Coliseum line". You will always enter venues in Rome before everyone else on a Rome or Vatican tour with When In Rome Tours. Our reputation in Rome is second to none, and we are sent recommendations every day. When In Rome Tours strives to offer the best possible tours of Rome and the Vatican, and we will continue to pursue even higher service standards in future.

“Captivated by Chiara!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2013

We recently toured the Vatican with When in Rome tours. Chiara was our guide and she made this one of our most memorable tours to date. It was refreshing to have a guide feel such passion and have so much knowledge about the city she grew up in. Our 3 hour tour quickly became 4 and yet it seemed like half that time. We had 20 in our group and she remembered everyone's names. Because we visited shortly before the pope was to give his last Sunday sermon, the Vatican was very crowded, yet she managed to maneuver us between other tour groups so that we were able to spend time enjoying the arts and enormity of Vatican city. We would strongly recommend When in Rome tours for anyone visiting Rome for the first time. There are many guides outside the Vatican waiting to take you on a tour but they are not authorized tour guides so beware of this. Be sure to ask for Chiara at When in Rome Tours...she's amazing!

“Luigi from when in rome was amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2013 via mobile

We just got finished with our first tour in rome of the vatican and feel obliged to write my first ever trip advisor review. my girlfriend and i used the when in rome company and got a tour guide named luigi who was magnificent. The tour was a great deal and we were able to skip all lines which saved a long wait. Not only was luigi knowledgable, outgoing, and funny but what stood out for me was how he got excited about many aspects he showed us throughtout. It really showed how much he personally cared about the area and history and added to make an already special experience even better. If you ever have a chance i highly recommend trying to got in his tour, you will not regret it!!! We hope to see him again

“When in Rome Use Luigi as Your Guide!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

We strongly recommend Luigi Senise of “When in Rome” for anyone considering a tour of the Vatican (or, for that matter, anywhere else). When we arrived at St. Peter’s Square one Saturday morning – without a plan -- we were greeted by a “When in Rome” representative and joined a group to be led through the Vatican by Luigi. Little did we know how lucky we were! Luigi is a master at navigating crowds, and pinpointing the best frescos, statues, and other relics that tell the story of the Holy See. Luigi has a unique gift in being able to keep a diverse group engaged – our group included individuals from many countries; he has a wonderful talent of identifying one interest for each tour member and then connecting that one thing with some aspect of the tour. His knowledge of art, Catholicism, and history greatly enhanced our experience. If we return to Rome, we would be sure to hire him again as our guide, and urge others to as well.

“Quick, but thorough!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

We joined a group of about 16 people and toured the Vatican museums and Sistine chapel with a super guide called Luigi. Of course the museums are huge and we passed by many rooms, but the most important sculptures and the Sistine chapel were shown and explained to us in great detail. The papal conclave is upcoming and it was great to be able to stand inside the Sistine chapel at such an important time in the history of the Catholic church. You really need a few weeks in the Vatican museums, but the best place to start is with When In Rome tours!

“When in Rome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

I spent a day or two researching Rome tours and really wanted a reputable agency with licensed guides to get the most out of my holiday. There are many websites, but if you look closely and read the small print it's quite easy to separate genuine tour operators from "random guide with cash only website" - there are thousands of those.

Rome in a day offers an ancient Rome tour and a Vatican tour. For my Vatican tour I was required to check in at their office which is a stone's throw away from the museum entrance. There, my small group met Mr. Luigi who is an exceptional guide with a super personality and an expert in art history. If you can book with him, you have to do it.

The ancient city tour with Chiara was just as good. After her tour I was walking around the forum like I owned the place!

Do your research before visiting Rome. It's possible to get brilliant tours thanks to When in Rome.
