Owner description: Special Offer for TripAdvisor members! Enter the promotion code TRIPADVISOR-RRT on our booking page and receive a 10% discount on any of our walking tours. Real Rome Tours is a small team of local guides, licensed and experienced in giving guided tours of Rome and the Vatican in English. Although all of our guides are licensed tour guides in Rome and the Vatican, they each have our own areas of expertise. We have archaeologists, art historians, and university lecturers among our ranks, and as our reputation has grown we continue to invite similarly-qualified guides to join us. Our philosophy is simple: We believe that tours should be fun as well as informative. We also believe that our customers are best served in small groups. For this purpose, we strictly limit our semi-private tours to only 13 people. Our fees are honest and reflect the small sizes of our groups. We include ticket prices in our tour fees where tickets are applicable, and we always skip the lines. Headsets are provided so you can walk around and still hear your live guide. Our customer base and reputation have been growing steadily over the past few years, and we promise to continue to strive to deliver the perfect Rome experience for all our future guests. We hope to see you on one of our tours in 2016!

It was thanks to TripAdvisor's high ratings of Real Rome Tours that we booked the tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum in March 2014. Having not known our schedule ahead of time, the booking was done fairly last minute, and I received a personal text message confirmation which I had requested to make sure the reservation went through. This professionalism was mirrored in our entire experience with Ferdinando, our extremely knowledgeable and friendly guide.

Not every tour company will grant you the opportunity to see an ancient archaeological site with someone like Ferdinando. We were blown away when he mentioned how his dissertation was written on his and his team's discoveries in a recently excavated layer of the Forum area, which he pointed out to us as we entered (still partly blocked by scaffolding!) and explained to us with the help of an extremely useful book of photographs and diagrams that served as a resource throughout the tour. We could tell that Ferdinando had a very well organized structure for how he wanted to explain each part of the tour, aided with those diagrams, and he managed to summarize the years of history in a very accessible way, constantly reminding us of the time frames of each character he mentioned to help keep us on track. He was even so organized as to offer us bathroom break opportunities every so often. It was the most informative tour I have ever been on - I just hope I will retain at least some of the information in years to come!

We were so impressed with Ferdinando as well as our ability to skip the lines and see both the sub-level and the highest level of the Colosseum (restricted access areas) that we managed to book a tour the next day with Ferdinando so that he could explain the Vatican to us in an equally interesting way, showing off his knowledge of art history while still contributing his specific archaeological knowledge of the excavations beneath the church and all of its associated history.

As Ferdinando explained to us, the two things in Rome that you really should see with the help of a guide are the Colosseum/Roman Forum and the Vatican, and we certainly are thankful that we decided to do just that. If all of the guides for Real Rome Tours are as impressive as Ferdinando was, this is without a doubt the best tour group in Rome.

If you're on the fence about booking a tour, just do it. It's worth the money three times over and really made our Rome vacation.

We booked the 3 hour tour of the Vatican, Sistine Chapel & St Peter's Basilica. Although we were early to arrive at the tour meeting point our tour guide Ferdinando was still there to greet us. With Ferdinando being an archeologist and loving history he brought the whole tour to life. He had time to answer any questions that we had and was very informative. If you like us your stay in Rome was short this is the must do tour. Thank you so much this was the highlight of our weekend.

We took a 3hr tour of the Colosseum and Forum with Dario .It was an excellent tour with a party of just 6.Dario was an extremely knowledgeable guy and answered all questions that were asked.
We were straight in early in the morning with very few people about which meant we moved along quickly. He had plenty of things to say along the way and was particularly excited to show us a new exhibition which he had not seen before.
Although quite expensive we felt it was good value.

We booked a tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum with Real Rome Tours on the strength of previous reviews and let me start by saying we were not disappointed. Ferdinando our tour guide made ancient Rome come alive with his outstanding knowledge and obvious love for the subject matter. Throughout the tour Ferdinando used photos, and drawings backed up by historical accounts to allow us to picture things as once they were. While the cost of this tour was slightly higher than some of the others I can not recommend it enough. To be able to stand in the middle of the arena (off limits to all but those on these small group tours) and look out around you as gladiators would have done almost 2000 years ago is awe inspiring! 10 out of 10 for the tour and for Ferdinando our guide.
