I live in Rome and make it a point to try restaurants that others have talked about. I should have realized that tourists had done all the talking about Santopadre, which clearly is resting on its laurels from days gone by. To put it succinctly, this place is a rip. No prices listed. Food is okay, nothing special. The waitress pushed dessert cookies at us, despite our protest. The final price was exorbitant, something like $130, and we spoke Italian! American tourists at a neighboring table paid the same price, and they didn't even drink wine. Rome has SO many great restaurants with reasonable prices -- many of which are in the same neighborhood. Too bad that some of the good reviews were written by visitors who did not get to experience great Italian food for fewer Euros.
