we left St Peters and had time to kill prior to a prebooked visit to the Vatican Museum. walking along the pedestrian streets nearby, many restaurant staff were asking us to sit at their restaurant and they all looked pretty much the same. stopping eventually at one we sat , and while waiting for the waiter to take our order we casually asked the people at the next table how their meal had been. based on their feedback, we quickly got up and left!
The next place on the strret was ARLU. we saw locals eating, saw good food, a small queue, and staff that were smiling. We took a gamble and had the best food, best service ever experienced in Rome.
Price was a little higher than other places but only by about ten percent, and everything was just so much better. The pesto was to die for. The pizza had sensible amounts of toppings unlike other places. Great gnocci with spinich.
A great suprise given the tourist trap environment. And lovely family run ambiance.
