“Gotta love the Donna.. see you next year!”
Reviewed September 15, 2011

My fiance and I spent three nights in Trastevere just on the outskirts of Rome in August this year. From the second we arrived, Hotel Donna Camilla really felt like our home away from home which was all we could ask for. Despite being peak season, we booked using booking.com and found the 'no cancellation rates' to be less than half the rack rate listed on the actual hotel website.

The staff, room, grounds and food were all fantastic. The breakfast buffet was the best I have experienced with a selection of gourmet cereals, fresh cut fruit, cheeses, breads, cold meats, eggs cooked to order, salad, juices and a stunning variety of cakes & pastries all made fresh each day. Coffee wasn't the budget percolated either it was made to order by the waiters and was superb. Breakfast each morning in the courtyard was simply the best way to start one's day.

The staff were very helpful with local restaurants and general directions, the room was so very quiet and clean.

Put simply, I will be back next year.

Everything you read about this hotel in other reviews is true. It is very elegant and gracious housed in a former convent. Stone tile floors, a courtyard, and stucco walls were vaguely reminiscent of Latin America but with muted colors. Staff was conscientious and attentive. The courtyard really is pleasant and relaxing. Breakfast was excellent.

However, it did have all the quirky Euro hotel amenity misses. No iron, no coffee in room (OK I understand why not in Italy), the half shower door that always leaves you with wet floors, no alarm clock, the 5 lb. keys you must check when you leave, only 5 hangars in the closet (but very nice carved wood), no facial tissue, dim room lighting, and no hair dryer. They claim I had a mini bar but sure didn't see it.

The internet worked well and was reasonably snappy, often a problem in Europe. Decent size rooms. This is a "let me tell you about the really neat hotel I stayed at" (it is) but could use a few practical business traveler touches.

This hotel, staff and service were above our expectations! Perfect location, just a few streets away from heart of bohemian Trastevere.
The hotel by itself is beautiful, the rooms are lovely, quiet and elegant.
The staff professional and attentive. The view from the rooftop is amazing. The breakfast well assorted and tables set in a lovely courtyard.
This is a hotel to go back to!

We were upgraded to a room overlooking the garden for our anniversary. Although the room itself was a bit spartan, it was large, clean, comfortable, and in keeping with the convent's heritage. The bathroom was luxurious. The staff was 100% lovely and helpful. The hotel was spotless. Breakfasts were incredible, offering an amazing selection of fresh hot and cold fare, baked goods and more. Loved the location slightly off the beaten path, easily accessible on foot to everything Rome had to offer. The garden and the entry hall were pleasant common spaces.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights during our first visit to Rome on the recommendation of Trpadvisor's downloadable guide to Rome, which described it as a 'Hidden Gem'. Rome is an expensive city and we thought the price of our basic room (£122.50 per night) was fair, although we had hoped for a room with more character.
The hotel has an old fashioned atmosphere and some of the staff seem a touch aloof. However, the breakfast staff could not be more helpful and friendly. We were a little disappointed to discover that the hotel did not serve dinner as other restaurants locally did not offer the refinement you would expect in a major city. The breakfast buffet is generous and the courtyard setting lovely. Be warned that if you order black coffee, you will receive instant coffee so you need to request espresso lungho.
The location of this hotel is great. Close enough to the lively restaurant and bar areas in Trastevere but just far enough away from the noise. Overall, we enjoyed a comfortable and pleasant stay.

We stayed in August. There were few guests. As the hotel clearly does cater for groups and seminars I would be careful at busier times.

This being said, our experience was excellent.

The rooms are well described in other reviews. Absolutely fine for the price and hotel rating

The building being a former monastery and retaining some period features has great charm. The interior garden is simply wonderful, both as a view from the room and as a location for breakfast.

The location is trastevere is in my view perfect. The hotel is quiet, but within a few hundred yards of lively nightlife and also a good base for most of Rome s sights.

A family of five including disabled grandmother and everything was made easy for us. The pergola covered courtyard was cool and calm to return to after the bustle of Rome. The rooms were high ceilinged and beautiful, the breakfast delicious and restaurants close by and atmospheric. The staff could not have been more helpful and the centre of Rome was a 20 minute walk for most of us and an easy taxi ride for those who could not walk. It was an old convent and there are still 3 nuns living there My favourite hotel ever.
