After ringing intercom at street level, the door opened and we were met at the top of two flights of stairs by the manager who put a coin in the lift to take us the rest of the way. The lift did not work for our last two days, which was hard on the knees. The room was a good size but the shower was small. What ever you do, do not pull the cord under the exhaust fan thinking it controls the fan, it is a unmarked alarm. On our second stay we were upgraded to a refurbished room with a bigger shower but did not have the table and chairs we enjoyed before. Breakfast is a pastry and coffee at a cafe next door who do a good special for dinner, mixed salad, pasta and a full glass of wine for €9.90

We were on a four day trip to Rome and were looking primarily for a convenient location. Casa Cleo fit the bill perfectly! Don't be put off by the grim entranceway. The rooms are very clean, comfortable, airy and sunny - all you need for a Roman Holiday! It is the perfect distance from Termini and the ruins. We had gone through a couple of reviews and therefore picked an en-suite. It was well worth the extra 20 Euros. There was a hairdryer, hot and cold water and was easily the best room in the B&B! There's still no board at the entrance so you must look out for the Hotel Valle Board to find the place.

You get a simple Italian Breakfast thrown in with only disadvantage being that it is not available until past eight in the morning at the Bar next door. The owner of the Bar and his wife were absolutely wonderful providing us with a charger for our phone and a place to chill after we had checked out. Look out for Andrea who stays outside the Bar to entice people in - you'll know him by the way he winks at the ladies! :-)

The only issue we had was that the owner of the B&B was never available - not even to collect the cash! The cleaning lady though kind and helpful never spoke a word of English so we were forced to keep calling the owner on the phone which was inconvenient. Italians are truly charming people so aside from this little hiccup they made sure we had a lovely time!

Room Tip: Ask for the en-suite - the lift is temperamental so be prepared to climb the stairs!

double booked me so got moved upstairs 1st night. Next day the owner shows me to my proper accomodation which is fine. Clean & tidy but no hot water in shower at night or morning. I had to wash my hair in the sink. They dont change your towels or bed linen either. Make sure you get up early otherwise you'll be in the bathroom que as you need to share with 6 other rooms!
For breakfast expect a measly coffee with a croissant....EVERYDAY. You dont get any other choice.
Apart from that it was perfect location. Walked the whole of Rome but its near the Metro line if you dont want to and its on a well lit street for heading home at night. ( a thing I was particularly worried about being a lone female traveller). Also only 10 minute walk from Terminini for when going to & from airport.
All in all it was fine for the bed I needed to sleep on and room to leave my stuff in whilst viewing the beautiful city that is Roma!!

Room Tip: Get the apartment with the on suite otherwise you'll be cross legged at night & in the morni...

Casa Cleo is an excellent B&B/small hotel. We had room 3 which has en-suite facilities (shower, washbasin, toilet, bidet). We were welcomed by Marta who first helped us by finding a bag I had left on the bus from the airport by making lots of calls. She also provided the equivalent of the services of a holiday rep in that she told us the best places to eat and the best places to see. The breakfast is simple coffee and croissant in a bar/cafe two doors away (extra coffee is only less than 1 euro), you get vouchers to use at the Cafe. The very first impression when you arrive at Casa Cleo is not good as you reach the third floor ( where Casa Cleo is situated) via a dark stairs where the walls have peeling paint, this stairs is shared with other accommodation. There is a small lift from the first floor (about 45 steps to reach the lift). This is not an issue though, think of it as adding character. The room we had had good heating/air condition and the free Wi-Fi worked well. The room had a high ceiling, modern LCD TV, Wardrobe, safe, table and bedside cabinets, tasteful decor. The Double bed was excellent, comfortable and large (I am over 6ft) and the room was serviced daily and kept spotlessly clean. Casa Cleo is near some great attractions, including the Colosseum, and some really excellent churches to visit. The main Termini, ie bus and rail station is about 10 minutes walk and the Cavour station on the Metro line is slightly nearer. Some great value and great quality restaurants are nearby. (Marta will tell you where). They have a web site ( http://www.casacleo.net ), Marta speaks excellent English and is extremely helpful so call her if you have any questions. You gather from this I recommend this very highly and would happily go back again. I see someone else had problems with hot water, it was fine for us, no complaints. Summary Great accommodation, service, location and good Value.

Room Tip: The rooms we saw all looked good. Some have shared bathroom facilities but the hotel is small so sha...

Location was excellent. 20min walk from train station. 10min walk from Colosseum and if your really ambitious 45min to Vatican!

When you get there, you need to phone the owners (number posted on door), or if you manage to get there at the right time, the same owners also own Cafe Brazil right next to the inn. When we checked in was the only time we saw this cafe open though. The owners were friendly and could speak English well.

Room was clean and spacious. Takes three different doors, with three different keys to get into it. Shared bathroom wasn't pristine clean, but it wasn't disgusting either. Never had to wait to use bathroom, but hot water took forever to come - and was on-off-on-off when it did come.

Wifi didn't work for the four days we were there. Our last day we managed to find the owner and he said he was having someone fix that day. Still never worked that night. Oh and breakfast only consists of a muffin and a juice and out of the four mornings we were there - we only got breakfast twice.

Overall, for short stays it is an ok place to stay. Location is good and price was decent.

Don't count on hot water. I shared a bathroom so I had to wait two hours for hot water and even then it only lasted for a minute. No place to put your toiletries in the bathroom. No shelves in the shower so a bathroom cubby for each room would be nice.

Yes, you have to walk up two and half flights of steps to get to the elevator but I expected that. NO wifi in room as indicated. There was wifi in their bar but the hours were very limited and inconvenient. Basically I could only get on early in the morning before we started our day by the time we returned they were always closed!

Breakfast was slim even when compared to other BB. You get a drink from the bar and roll or croissant. That's it. The staff wasn't available except for mornings and we didn't get any useful advice as far as local restaurants recommendations.

That said it was great location. Walking distance from termini (10 minutes), metro (5 minutes), and coliseum (10 minutes). There also a market down the block for any essentials. I don't think it was the best value for the money.
