We decided to try the Cellar Door based on not much information... We could have been the first review but didn't get to it in time...
A whole block from the tourist district, this felt like a place locals would go and is located in a kind of a strip mall.
As soon as we walked in, it felt like we were in the right place. As a new restaurant everyone on the staff was working hard to do a great job. The menu had traditional favorites like prosciutto and cheese and other antipasti, as well as beef...lots of beef...which is a good thing.
So...the food...First, the grilled eggplant in the antipasto is amazing. You need to try it.
Second... The beef is incredible... I am from Alberta and we know good beef... They even did a proper rare. My wife also had the fagioli beans which were excellent and a nice veal.
Salads and oven roasted potatoes served as sides were also great...I found myself sitting in front of a bunch of food and, instead of being done with a course, wanting to eat more of everything.
A great experience, non-tourist high quality food, and a place I would go back to frequently if I lived in Italy. On top of the food, the staff clearly wanted to be there and their demeanor helped make this one of the best meals we've had in Italy.
