Although the hotel is grand in appearance, and has great character features, it is unfortunately in need of a major overhaul. The bedrooms are tired and dated, and although they are exceptionally clean, with good quality bed linen and towels; they need refurbishing. The breakfast area is drab and uninviting.
The hotel appears disjointed, with a remote reception, a remote breakfast room, a remote restaurant, and remote bedroom buildings. There is no cohesion (or togetherness) to the overall hotel.
This is a hotel with great potential, but it appears to have lost its way, and it could be so much better.

We spent 5 days here in September and enjoyed the facilities and location. Great rooms and pool, clean. The bad side was the service related to the bar and restaurant. Slow, no smile, they give customers a feeling they are a hassle. They say 4 stars, but without better service it's only 3.. The luggage / pool guy was pleasant however.

This is a difficult one! I had a really good week at Villa Irlanda, but so much could have been better. I booked with Expedia and my friend booked direct. Her room was 500E cheaper and much much nicer. Why is this? The pool is perfect, the setting idyllic, and visually everything is lovely. My gripe is the service. No food available when we arrived at 2.45 pm, 15 mins after the restaurant closed, no apology, just no food. The staff seemed to be too busy to help and if they were available, really didn't seem to care. Pool attendant was more helpful. No bar, no drinks service and no easy food. Fine if you want fine dining, which we did for one night. Otherwise they just didn't seem concerned for our wellbeing. Cleaning good, sheets and towels good, sunbeds old and a bit rickety but plenty available. Overall we felt we were an inconvenience, such a shame. On a plus note there is an underground pass below the road to a pontoon in the sea for sunbathing and swimming, gets really busy but the pool guy can book places. If you want to bring guests, 20E a day each. If you book having read this you will have a nice time but will feel a bit disappointed in their care of you. Road outside very busy and fast if you want to cross it to walk to Formia, about 15 mins and straightforward, just very very busy. Breakfast fine but pretty ordinary for the price.

This is a brilliant place. Clean, quiet, relaxing. Great common areas, pool, and gardens. Good breakfast. Efficient and helpful staff, even if not all seemed equally engaged in their interaction with us. Villa Irlanda is a wonderful option to relax and enjoy life.
In the evening they serve quality dinner in a perfect setting outside. We had not booked but the man in charge welcomed us and quickly came out with an additional table, set it all up and proceeded to offer us a complimentary prosecco.
The surroundings neighbouring the hotel are not particularly interesting but with a rental car like we had it is close to many interesting areas, including the old town of Gaeta, the beautiful beaches just north of Gaeta, the Aurunci mountains with the Redentor summit, and even not too far from the marvels of Ercolano, Pompei and Naples. My wife and my teenage children all agree this is a hotel we would be happy to visit again.
One improvement area is that it was very warm on the second floor of our loft family room. There is an AC unit but the temperature was consistently higher than in the first floor below. This meant between 27 and 28 degrees centigrades at night which is a bit too much for best sleep comfort. We did sleep ok but this is a small detail that surely be corrected. Other than that the room was great with two bathrooms, and a pretty view of the ocean and the Gaeta peninsula.

Lovely hotel, very clean. Not to crowded by the pool. Staff very polite & welcoming. We had a family room, & the hotel accommodated us by swapping the sofa bed for two single beds. Had the continental breakfast only & good choice & selection.
