Another beautiful villa, probably belonging to some noble family.
I was amazed by the beauty and care of the many frescos on all the walls of this large villa, I dare not imagine how wonderful it had been to see it nearly 20 centuries ago in all its glory.
A beautiful garden outside and just as beautiful on the inside, inside in the center of the large room a stone pool to collect rainwater, which is typical in the rich Roman villas.
Everything is perfectly kept and preserved.

A true enthusiast with good knowledge of roman history could spend a day or perhaps a career in this house. It is a big place. Much survives. The frescoes are great. The room layout quite interesting. Other things less obvious fascinated me too: pipes, toilets, cistern designed to catch rainwater, etc. rich guy, sophisticated population, ability to have lots of slaves, etc. worth more time than most of Pompeii but you always need to keep going

The House of Menander is one of the larger homes in Pompeii and still contains a gorgeous array of original, brightly-colored wall paintings. Parts of the house were blocked off when we visited; this was likely due to a combination of restoration work and to protect the originals. Many more of the original wall paintings are on display in Naples National Archaeological Museum. The House of Menander is named for the well-preserved fresco of the 4th century B. C. Greek Dramatist/Comic Menander that you can view in the attached picture. If you look at a floorplan of the house, you will see that it is very intricate with many, many rooms. We could visit only a small number of them, but they were certainly very special! The house is located in an upscale area about 2 blocks away from both the Stabian Baths as well as the Teatro Grande and Teatro Piccolo.
