“Great hotel to see the sites of pompeii”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

Stayed at the hotel for a couple of days with some friends to visit Pompeii and mount Vesuvius. The hotel is lovely, friendly and clean. More on the basic end but had a modern bathroom and lovely family run feel. The hotel is just outside the walls of Pompeii so walked everywhere. We were just out of season so the hotel was quite, but the owner was helpful and happily served us drinks at the bar after a long day site seeing. It has a lovely terrace outside which is perfect for sitting out, particularly when we returned from a hot day out in the sun because but is covered in beautiful plants. There is not much in Pompeii and would say that a couple of days is fine as it is quite touristy, but we ate a couple of times at a nice restaurant opposite the hotel, not fancy but good food and wine for very little money. Would happily stay here again, very good for the cost.

This hotel was quite a find. It's situated perfectly half way between 2 entrances to the pompei ruins. It's a family run place, with beautiful views of mt Vesuvius from the back rooms. I was very surmised that we were the only guests. Breakfast was a feast despite it being just god the two if us. The wifi was awesome as we'll.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back.

I mixed up the dates while booking, and when I got there they promptly gave me a room.
I also got there super early (like 7 am) and they allowed us to go to our room.
When we figured out that my booking was wrong, they didn't charge us or anything, they said "Oh you already paid for one night, so it's all good!"

The breakfast is great with a lot o fresh fruit.

We found this to be a very nice, clean hotel. The rooms are a bit noisy, but a good size. The area is superb for the archaeological site.

The key features for why you should stay here are:
1. Superb location for visiting the archaeological site - it is a very short walk.
2. Free on site parking

Breakfast is pretty basic, but was fine for us. The staff were very helpful when we had to arrange something with a previous hotel.

I have stayed at this family run hotel 3 times and would stay again as I have always felt welcome and safe. Accomodation is basic and so are the services on offer, but the beds are comfortable and all rooms have a balcony. There is a lot of traffic noise as the hotel stands on a junction with roads on both sides. However I doubt that anywhere in Pompeii would be quiet re road noise. The degli Amici itself is peaceful; I've never been disturbed by other guests. There is plenty of breakfast; always a lot of fresh fruit, fresh croissants, tomamtoes, ommlette or hard boiled eggs as well as the things mentioned in the other reviews, so you won't have to eat the same thing every day. There is a coffee shop across the street and lots of restaurants nearby. The family do almost everything including waiting up for guests at night so let them know if you plan to be out late. Breakfast is between 8 and 10 but they have always arranged it earlier for me.

I use the degli Amici when I am working on a nearby archaeological dig. Colleagues stay in a variety of other local hotels and have far more complaints than I do about the degli Amici.

We chose this hotel because there were 7 of us and this was competitively priced. Whilst I am aware that you get what you pay for, any person looking at this hotel may need to know a few things. The photographs show the hotel at it`s best, the reality is a little different. The hotel owners are polite, but only just and not very helpful. The rooms are adequate but basic and a little drab. Breakfast is uninspiring, every day there are rolls, prepacked croissants, cheese and salami. I like coffee with breakfast but got frothy milk with a coffee smell and When I asked for tea or coffee any other time of day I was frowned upon. I was happy to pay for it but it was not available. The location is OK but there are nicer spots a few minutes walk away. Before you book this hotel, make sure you have made some comparisons, I would not book again.

We picked this hotel as it was reasonably priced and perfectly located. Easy access using the train to all the places we wanted to visit...Napoli, Sorrento, Vesuvius & Ercolano.
The hotel is reasonably priced - you get what you pay for. The rooms are clean but basic. The communal areas have character and build up your expectation of the standard of the rooms. They are a little jaded.
Breakfast is included in the price of the room. It is adequate - rolls, packaged croissants, cheese, ham, tomatoes, yoghurts, cereal.
Our biggest bug bear was that we were not able to have a coffee or tea, apart from at breakfast. Only one cup is offered then. A couple of times, we went down to ask during the early evening, but were told, 'No coffee or tea.....whisky?' There is no where local to purchase hot drinks. A travel kettle would be a good idea!
The staff are polite, but not particularly friendly or 'forthcoming'.
This hotel suited us for our purposes, but would not visit again.

Room Tip: All rooms have a balcony.
