This is the most amazing spot in the city. Here is where you get a great view of Mt. Vesuvius looming in the background. The view is both fascinating, and terrifying at the same time. Especially on a gloomy day. It's a very spacious area. A place where you can do your own thing and not feel crowded out by other tourists. Having a private guide was very helpful. Also, it was helpful having the "Pompeii Reconstructed" book available when trying to visualize what the Forum looked like prior to it's destruction. Even without a guide, it's not difficult to imagine that this was once a very vital and thriving city center. The center of political, economic, and religious life in Pompeii. It was a very memorable ending to a wonderful tour.
