“The heart of an ancient city”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

This is the most amazing spot in the city. Here is where you get a great view of Mt. Vesuvius looming in the background. The view is both fascinating, and terrifying at the same time. Especially on a gloomy day. It's a very spacious area. A place where you can do your own thing and not feel crowded out by other tourists. Having a private guide was very helpful. Also, it was helpful having the "Pompeii Reconstructed" book available when trying to visualize what the Forum looked like prior to it's destruction. Even without a guide, it's not difficult to imagine that this was once a very vital and thriving city center. The center of political, economic, and religious life in Pompeii. It was a very memorable ending to a wonderful tour.

“So beautiful, impossible to miss this huge archeological area.”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

Located in the archaeological area of Pompeii, this is the exact point in the center of the city, a very spacious square surrounded entirely by the magnificent ruins of Pompeii.
This is a cultural show envied all over the world, second only to the beauty of Rome.
Here in this vast space you can admire the ruins of several temples, some summer days here is very crowded and the heat is exhausting but it is the perfect place to take a lot of photos.
Easily identifiable, it is in fact located at the beginning of the path right after the entrance.

“Great attraction in ancient Pompeii”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

This is one of the many sites within ancient Pompeii (Not sure why it has its own listing as the attraction is ancient Pompeii?). It was my second favourite building in ancient Pompeii (behind the amphitheatre) - it is really impressive as the main square in Pompeii with many important buildings would have stood. We had a lovely lunch sitting and admiring its grandeur. There is a restaurant just behind the temple of Jupiter - expect to pay a few more euros in there for everything e.g. Diet coke bottle = €3.50.

“One of several wonderful vistas”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

Trekking through Pompeii there are many wonderful places to stop. Unfortunately you can't stop long anyplace. We did see casts of victims which adds a human dimension to this site. There are so many well preserved buildings, often with surviving frescos and with the interior partially preserved tht a tourist can't see much because there is always more. Certainly stepping back and taking in the bigger picture is worth it.

“Forum and ruins in general at Pompeii”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

Don't forget to visit the casts of the victims in the Forum area. You will also need an audio-guide to tell you more about each of the places, houses and buildings you visit.
