“Really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Forum”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Hotel Forum.

We chose the Hotel for it's location, directly opposite the entrance to the Pompeii site. Our room (56) was wonderful, with direct views over the site, hidden by trees, to Vesuvius. We slept really well in the over sized double bed........ and there was a small balcony for me to sit on, while my son went to bed. This was great for people watching the street below!! There was plentiful hot water always, and the bathrobe was a real bonus. The TV had CNN which allowed me to keep abreast of the news, including the winter Olympics. Breakfast was cereals/toast/pastries/fresh fruit/scrambled eggs with spinach/ sausage and fruit juices/hot drinks. We found it a good start to the day...we don't have full cooked breakfast at home daily.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, ordering us a taxi from the airport on our arrival from Naples (70 Euros). This we felt was expensive, but worth the trouble free journey.
In the early evening there are canapes in the bar, great with a pre dinner drink. The staff are full of local knowledge and helped with all my queries. The lovely receptionist even gave my son some Pompeii prints as it was his Birthday, such a lovely touch.
As we traveled in February, many cafes and restaurants are open at weekends and lunch but then not in the evening or week evenings. This would obviously change as the season gets busier.
The hotel has a ginger tabby cat, my son named him Tibbles,.........very friendly indeed.

The hotel is also only about 5 mins walk from the train station which allows you easy access to the surrounding sites.

If we are lucky enough to return to Pompeii, I would book the Hotel Forum without hesitation. I just wish I had remained there for the whole stay, rather than moving to a hotel in Naples.

Room Tip: Our room, a junior suite, was number 56. 2nd floor with stunning views. Bath and shower over. Huge...

We stayed in the Hotel Forum in December 2013. Our room was comfortable and clean and well maintained, with a lovely small balcony and a spacious (almost luxurious) bathroom with a lovely large bathtub. The staff were kind and helpful and breakfasts were absolutely wonderful, including beautiful fresh orange juice. Dinner in the restaurant was something of a disappointment, but we were the only people there that night and perhaps didn't choose wisely from the menu. Entry to the archaeological site is just across the road, and it's a short walk to other sites of interest and places to eat, so it is positioned perfectly.

Room Tip: Just check that the railway station you choose is the one in the centre of town, rather than the one...

Our room was cold and in places the paint was peeling. We had to ask for the heating to be turned on (they don't normally turn it on before 5.30pm). The staff were uninterested and talked amongst themselves rather than answer the counter. They put on a good happy hour, but them some teenage boys (related in some way to the staff), came in and handled a lot of the food and put it back on the plate. We ordered dinner in the restaurant but they called out for the food to be brought in, and it was cold when it arrived. For a three star hotel in the middle of winter I feel they didn't care.
The things it had going for it was that it was very clean and parking was close. Free wifi worked well. It had a beautiful outdoor garden area which I suspect would be superb in the summer.

As all the reviews state, the hotel is across the street from the ruins. We had a roof top room which was very quiet and comfortable. The staff were friendly. We drove in from Naples airport in the evening, and with the busy street, missed the hotel. There isn't an obvious sign out front, but we should have recognized the hotel from photos. Even though it was chilly, we still sat out in the evenings in the garden area for a glass of wine. Parking is close, just about half a block down the street. There are restaurants close by, but you should also try the street venders. There are several to choose from, but we went with one that is a couple of doors down from the hotel. You will recognize it as it is always busy with locals.
We used this hotel as a base to explore around the Amalfi Coast. Pompeii is fairly easy to navigate if you have a GPS. It's about an hour drive to Positano. I have 2 suggestions if you decide to drive there from the hotel. Don't attempt it without a GPS, and set way points so the GPS will take you via the motorways. It will be longer, but a much better, more relaxing drive.

Room Tip: We stayed in a roof top room. It was very quiet.

Location - just a couple of minutes walk from the Amphitheatre entrance to Pompeii and around 15 minutes walk from the main entrance (Marina). There are a number of cafes and restaurants around the hotel.

Staff - excellent and friendly

Room - good size, very clean, with balcony, bathroom had bath and separate shower.

WiFi - strong

Breakfast - good range of breads, rolls and cakes. Cereals, juices, fruit are all available. The hot breakfast was scrambled eggs with spinach and local sausage - bit repetitive. Overall excellent.

Hotel - Lovely gardens, well lit with seats and trees. The dining room was large, bright and looks over the gardens

Car parking - you can drive into the hotel drive to allow you to drop off your bags. Parking couldn't be nearer or easier to get to - it's about 50 meters from the hotel and is the car park for a small amusement arcade.

I highly recommend this hotel, I'd definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: I was at the back and it was quiet, rooms at the front may get a bit of road noise.

Stayed here July 2013. Had family room for 4. 2 nights. Room was clean and of sufficient size. Hotel is very nice. Have to drive into courtyard to unpack car, then park across street in lot. No problems. Easy access to archaeological site. Breakfast was great. Orange juice was magnificent. Really fresh squeezed.

Very convenient for the ruins of ancient Pompeii this hotel is scrupulously clean, the rooms are on the small side but fine for a short stay. The beds are comfortable, the staff friendly and efficient and nothing is too much trouble. Visiting in winter one does not get to sit out in the sunken garden which is a pity as the restaurant is a bit soulless when empty and the bar area off reception is small.
The breakfast buffet was a little sparse on choice, probably because few people staying at this time of year, but adequate.
The hotel is ideally positioned to visit the ruins of ancient Pompeii being situated on the main street about 100 yards from the entrance.
Only one real gripe - the towels are large but hard, more like tea towel material - there is no excuse for not having fluffy towels these days! It's what reduced my overall rating.
