A group of 10 of us stayed here for 4 nights, visiting the various ruins, Naples, and Sorrento. The reviews and photos on here give a very fair overall impression and I will not repeat the main points. Its a very handy location (opposite main site, good for both railway stations to visit others, coach trip to Vesuvius, etc). Plenty of local eating places. The garden/terrace is very pleasant, and there is a small bar area inside. Breakfast was fine in a nice room or outside terrace, as many have reported. Nice snacks before dinner. Generally the rooms were good, nicely equipped, well cleaned, little balconies to some. I gather those at front could be a bit noisy at times.

Our problem was their mix up over our room booking. Despite being made and confirmed months before, there was a mistake which led to one pair not getting the Junior Suite they had ordered. Unfortunately not much was done about this in terms of apologies let alone putting it right. Eventually, on the last evening the manager did apologise fully and some discount was given (not all that generous, considering the disappointing week they had had). This left an unfortunate impression, that when things went wrong not that much was done to assist - not a 4* performance by management. Having said that, the receptionists were pleasant and helpful.

My advice is to confirm the exact details of your booking, perhaps 1-2 weeks in advance, and ask them to confirm or tell you of any problems. Obviously when one arrives and there is already someone from another party settled in to your room, there is not much that can be done.. So try to stop that happening in advance!

I would personally consider returning as its a nice little hotel - maybe not 4* but good value and a pleasant base. But there are a couple of other good hotels in Pompeii that would be worth looking at.....

Room Tip: Seek confirmation of booking before arrival.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Forum for 2 nights while in Pompei, and we could not have been happier. The hotel is right near an entrance to Ancient Pompei, the room was large, clean and comfortable, the staff were fantastic and breakfast was excellent.

If you are catching the train, the hotel is right near the Pompei railway station (not Pompei di scavi).

We found that the extra we paid for a junior suite (room 55) was a good investment. After tiring days at Pompeii and Herculaneum the suite was very comfortable with a huge bed, settee and table and chair also excellent bathroom. No problems with airconditioning, waffle towels proved very good. The first day when you sit down for breakfast and are asked if you want coffee it might not occur to you that they are offering to make fresh coffee, expresso, machiatto or whatever you want. This is then brought freshly made with croissants. The buffet is continental plus sausages and scambled eggs. I agree with earlier reviews the gardens are amazing and the seating very comfortable. There are 2 computers in the lobby with free internet. Also 20% discount at President restaurant. Staff are very courtious but didn't warn us there was a train strike when ordering a taxi to the railway station! Walk to main entrance of Pompeii scavi in the cool monring air and leave at the other end when you are tired as you are only 2 mins away from the hotel. If using the Circumvesuviana from Naples make sure you go to Pompeii not Pompeii Scavii.

In one word - adequate. The front desk staff was very good. The location was top notch. The rooms? Not so great. Our AC didn't really work and went out our last night there. The toilet in our room didnt flush unless you pudhed the button a bunch of yime and the toilet in the room for the other part of our party ran constantly. The breakfast was decent - nothing to write home about. Would I stay again? Yes because the location was great and the room was suitable, though not a Ritz-Carlton.

Stayed at this hotel from 24/5/11~31/5/11. The hotel's situation was excellent for the excavations and near to the circumvesuviana train station. The staff were very kind and attentive and nothing too much trouble. The room was large and the facilities in the room up to standard. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and eating in the garden under the lemon trees delightful. Room service had a good menu at reasonable prices. It was lovely to relax in the garden with a drink in a comfortable chair. The town of Pompei was nice but busy with pilgrims to the church. My room was at the front of the hotel which was a bit noisy especially at night, however one night the pilgrims staged a parade to the church with icons and fireworks which from the balcony was an interesting sight. I expressed an interest in the etchings of pompeii to the receptionist and she gave me a copy of one, also at breakfast they had a dvd about pompeii and ancient rome playing,I asked about buying this and they did not hesistate in making me a copy and would not take any money for this. As a mature solo female traveller I had to make sure that I chose the right hotel and I did! The one drawback was the constant muzak playing in the garden which could if you did not like jazz/blues would get on your nerves. All in all though an excellent choice of hotel.

Room Tip: Upper floor rooms in the new part of the hotel
