Next restaurant of our Napoli region voyage.
The L’Espresso restaurant guide mentiones 3 outstanding restaurants in Pompei. This is the middle one, they say. I for myself can't make the difference between n°2 and n°1.
Interior: modern, open, with a high ceiling
Service: most friendly, no fuss or Italian manierisms, but straight to the point. And very good english explanations!
Food: as usual in Italy, the freshest and best products are used. No show, but the product says it all. Starter: Frittate of fishes and a fresh one topped with finely sliced fennel. Primo: Spaghetti alle vongole. Secondo: grilled swordfish. Took no dessert, we ate enough. A duet of grappa followed to finish an exquisite meal.
Wine list: extensive, with accent on Campania wines.
To make it all complete, Vicenzo drove us back to our B&B. Isn’t that good service?

My family of five had just completed touring the Pompeii ruins and were ready to eat and relax. Our driver recommended Il Giardino delle Esperidi which is a good thing for several reasons. First, it was a wonderful experience. Two, we would not have found it nor perhaps even ventured in without the referral. It wasn't exactly buried like the Pompeii ruins, but it was certainly off the beaten path. The outdoor patio seating was a wonderful oasis surpassed only by the food and service. Vincenzo saw to it that we had a great dining experience and that our special diet requirements (three gluten free, one seafood allergy) were addressed perfectly. Forget the menu. Just tell the staff what you are interested in and let them take it from there.

From the moment we entered Il Giardino delle Esperidi, Maitre d', Vincenzo Carotenuto, made us feel welcome, with his warm, charming personality, and his expert knowledge of the local wines and the wonderful array of fresh seafood served by the restaurant. We never really saw a menu, Vincenzo simply delighted us with one of the finest dinners we had in our entire time in Italy. He also recommended a beautiful Taurasi --the best wine that the region has to offer--to accompany our meal. It was three courses of the freshest, finest seafood, finished off with a superb, thick, perfectly grilled sea bream that was quite simply, marvelous. We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for first rate cuisine, great wine, and a truly gracious and knowledgable host in Vincenzo.

Ok, please note only one review,by a local... Reason is this place is tucked away about 15 minutes walk from Pompeii, in fact, recommended by our hotel and the restaurant picknyou up, this apparently puts most visitors off ( that tourist trap feeling?) BUT what a surprise, went for Sunday lunch, full of locals, fresh fish, lovely garden and modern interior.
The owner spent six months in the UK so English was good.
Try homemade limoncello.. I think you will find it's worth a trip to this place, well run and the many locals dining is a clue.
