In 2009 my wife and her sister and her husband spent a day on the Amalfi Coast ( off a cruise ship). We did not get to go to Pompeii on that trip but we were fortunate enough to be back on the Amalfi Coast in Sept 2012 ( we rented a villa in Praiano for a week) and Pompeii was one of our "musts." During the summer and via email we booked a two hour tour with Gaetano -- no deposit required -- and he was as good as advertised. It had been suggested that we tour Pompeii on our transfer day from Naples Airport to Praiano even though we would be a bit jet-lagged so as to save ourselves from using an entire day mid-week to go back and forth to Pompeii. That saved us time & money and Gaetano' enthusiasm and knowledge took care of the jet lag! In fact, even though our tour was scheduled for two hours, Gaetano insisted that we have lunch first at a nearby restaurant in order to relax, refresh, and regroup. That alone was a gift, and he waited ( with some buddies at another table ) for almost an hour and then, just like that, we were back in 79AD! Gaetano's obvious love for his work and his ability to explain what we were seeing was as good as I have ever had in a guide. It was a real treat to learn from him. At one point another tourist -- lurking nearby --began to ask him a question. Gaetano stopped him in mid-sentence and said that he could not answer as he was leading a private tour and his responsibility was to the 4 of us alone. In addition, he turned off his cell phone at the start of the tour so as to give us his undivided attention for our 120 minutes. He welcomed our questions and our comments and our two hours there were magical. We highly recommend him! As he said to us many times on that day, "Bravo."
