“It's a HUGE ripoff!”

Parking here is very convenient to the Scavi entrance however don't be swayed by the convenience of "free parking" if you eat at our restaurant. You are required to eat €40 minimum plus €2 coperto (sit down fee PER person) plus 15% service fee. Our bill came to €43 + €8 coperto (family of 4) + €7.60 service fee for a grand total of €58.60. What a huge ripoff and they know it because the service guy is constantly arguing or discussing the bill with everyone who receives the bill. To make matters worse, the food was terrible. How hard is it for an Italian to mess up a Margherita pizza? Easy for this establishment for sure. Bottom line - park don't eat.

We happened into this parking cum restaurant right off the highway exit. Staff is efficient and kind, food very decent and if you park your car and have lunch at their restaurant, you don't pay the parking fee, we spent € 76.48 for 4 people, full lunch and 4:30 hours of parking time. Highly recommended.

Many restaurants near Pompeii offer parking, from the roadside they look like official car parks but they are not.

We parked at I due Cesari and when we went to pay we were told we had to pay on our return from the ruins or we could eat at the restaurant and the parking wouuld be free.

We decided to do this on our return but once we sat down we were showed that on our ticket it said we had to spend 40 euros to qualify for free parking. This was expensive for a lunch for 2. I wanted to pay for the parking seperately but the waiter talked my husband into ordering a starter so we could qualify for free parking.

The waiter stopped in the middle of taking our order to answer his mobile phone. He got my drink order wrong and it took ages to correct. The pizzas we ordered were not particularly nice.

When the bill came we found a cover charge had been added and a 15% service charge. I questioned this and was shown that both are written in small writing on the menu. I said that I didn't think the service was very good and therefore did not want to pay the 15%. I was told I had to and as they had our hire car in our car park- the exit to which is patrolled by staff I had no choice. We ended up paying 49 euros in total.

We had to pay cover charges in a few places as we travelled round Italy but this was the only place where we were practically forced to leave 15% service charge. I saw one other set of diners in I due Cesari question the waiters as well but they are obviously well trained in dealing with this.

This may all be above board but it me with a bad taste in my mouth and not just from the bad pizza.
