You get sucked in by "free parking" but its really a scam. The food bill is inflated with cover charges and service at 15% and the service is dire. A dirty looking woman giving us chipped plates and another waiter who was clearly in on the scam thinking we were stupid americans signaling to the parking attendant to demand more money on our exit... I just told the idiot to get out of my way or I would run him over... the food was incredibly ok although an Italian family nearby sent their salad back... so beware the friendly two guys offering "free parking" opposite the ruins entrance... or go with it and be prepared to run over a gypsy-type deranged tramp demanding money for waving you to a parking spot.... HILARIOUS..... sad really, It gives italy a bad name and it why most prefer Spain, where waiters would rather take their own lives before ripping off a customer.

My husband and I have just returned from a cruise and it was during our visit to Naples that we visited the Ristorante Lucullus. The service and food were excellent. we were in a large party with a 'set menu'. All the food arrived quickly and was well presented and tasty.
The owners and staff were attentive and we would be happy to return to this restaurant if ever we return.

Absolutely awful place. We were starving and thirsty when we left the ruins and walked past a few cafeterias before what LOOKED like a nice restaurant. How wrong we were.

Dreadful service with bad attitude, horrible food including undercooked (i.e. hard) risotto and a raw sausage for my young daughter. Thankfully part of our order just never arrived which probably saved us from food poisoning. More attitude when we (apparently unreasonably!) asked for the missing items to be removed from the bill (which took about 20 minutes to arrive despite restaurant being empty.)

You get the picture - do yourself a favour and give this place a wide berth.

Had lunch there after parking my car at their private parking. If you eat there they do not charge you the parking and they are just 5 minutes from pompeii ruins site. Foos was ok, well sized portions and price regular to a tourist place like pompeii.

We knew there were no good restaurants in Pompeii. But after three hours of walking the ruins, we wanted to take a break before getting back on the train. Warned to stay away from the places between the entrance to the ruins and the train station, a guidebook suggested Lucullus. After a 15-minute walk into the touristy looking town, we found what looked like a nice place. But appearances can be deceiving. First we realized this is a place that caters to big tour busses. Our small table of four was almost ignored. But then came the food and it got worse. A veal dish looked and tasted like overcooked pot roast. An undercooked risotto with a diluted porcini mushroom sauce was almost inedible. After the tour bus people were gone, we were practically the last people in the place. Yet despite asking for a check, it took 10 minutes to get it. With some wine, the cost was almost 40 euros a couple ($52) which was what we paid in Sorrento for a really good lunch. Don't waste your time going into Pompeii. Either pack some fruit or buy an overpriced pizza sandwich next to the train station.
