“The best building in Naples”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2014

This building seemed to get little mention on the websites I visited about Naples but I thought it was the highlight of a one day visit. What a fantastic building. The hotel is badly signed so go to the centre of the galleria and take a close look at each gate until you see a small sign on one of them for the hotel on the 4th floor. press the buzzer to speak to the reception. Quirky old fashioned lift to the hotel entrance. The room was large with elegant period style furniture and a spacious bathroom with a jaccuuzzi. We had a comfortable, very large four poster bed. There was good soundproofing for a great nights sleep. We had to leave very early for the airport the next day and were first in the restaurant for breakfast. After being seated we were given coffee and then the waitress disappeared. The chance of a second cup would have been nice. The staff on reception were friendly and helpful

Room Tip: Check what's available for breakfast. There's a cooking area for grilling but not sure if it...

The women were great-kind, helpful, cleaned the rooms great, tried to answer any question, and acted on every request immediately. HOWEVER - THE MEN THAT WORKED THERE WERE AWFUL, ESP. ANDREA! The Annex has a different address (not listed) and took an hour to find-the REALLY RUDE man in the main part could not say how to get there. We went out that evening and the hotel was then locked and we are supposed to be let in immediately, but the men at night slept on the public couches in the restaurant for the guests. 1st night took 10 mins., the 2nd it took 20 - it's not in a great neighborhood, so felt very uncomfortable (Andrea was working). In the AM, Andrea was still working, we needed to catch a flight. We left 20 mins early to check out, it took 45 minutes. 1 - we had to wake Andrea up who was sleeping/snoring on the couch in the public restaurant for guests (we told him that we were in a hurry to catch a flight and he still did everything at a snail's pace), Andrea then insisted that we pay the city taxes in cash and we did not have enough - it made no sense, but we had to rush outside to an ATM. 2 - I paid on hotels.com in advance for the room, but Andrea insisted that we did not pay and we had to pay again (I don't know whose fault this is - it is 10 days later and the hotel nor hotels.com has returned my calls/emails. 3 - Andrea wouldn't even call us a cab, we had to find one outside. I will never return to this hotel and never suggest that anyone go there.

Room Tip: Stay in the Main Building; not the Annex

alibus from airport to molo beverello and 5 - 10 minute walk to here - ideally located to explore the city on foot or to access funiculare Augusteo for Castel san Elmo and the Vomero area, via toledo leads into Piazza Dante and the centro storico all close by
We stayed in the Dependenze annexe with a gallery view and amazing setting (never stayed in a tourist attraction before) - staff helpful, friendly, other reviews have mentioned disappointing breakfasts but we did not have one during our 5 day stay.
Only gripe was the shower curtain (evidence of mould at the bottom) and the jacuzzi bath was a welcome treat between site seeing and evening passagiata and dinner.
The galleria is a working environment and an open 24 hours cut through but we slept well (recomend ear plugs if windos open or close windows and use air conditioning).
Would highly recomend here and suggest people remember there is a city tax (true of all Italian cities we've stayed in)

Room Tip: Room 3 of the annexe worked for us ! can't comment on other rooms

On the third floor of the Galleria Umberto I and reached by a small, sometimes temperamental lift, this charming hotel and its nearby annexe are ideally located next to the Teatro San Carlo . Reception staff were very helpful and the bedrooms comfortable and reasonably priced. Taking breakfast on the terrace allows you to absorb the inner city bustle and enjoy early-morning sun

The Hotel Art Resort is a typical city hotel in the center. Personnel is warm and hospitally. If you want to live city athmosphere it would be good choice. It is near to shopping and historical places and Teatro San Carlo.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2014

We really enjoyed the hotel, its environs, room, quaint look, view to the gallery, friendly staff. The breakfast was a bit light, and once the eggs, cheese etc., had gone, that seems it, and other guests missed out. No orange juice in a famous citrus area. I note others have made comments on the breakfast. Minus half a point. However, at 6pm there are drinks and snacks to end the day and begin the evening. So overall we still rate the stay as excellent and to have the Umberto Galleria as the front door and proximity to the sights and transport, plus good shopping make this a nice place from which to enjoy Naples.

Room Tip: We chose a room with a view onto the galleria. Excellent
