“just for the view”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2014

if you want to see Naples and Mt Vezuvious take the funicular central line to Fuga station and follow the signs to st ELMOS. CASTLE. The ticket is 5 euros for a 360 degree view of Naples . The museum was closed so we didnt see anything, but because it was a sunny, windy day we got a great view and lots of pictures

“Beautiful views...not much else.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2014

A huge castle built at the top of Naples makes for a wonderful view. After you purchase your ticket for 5 euro, you can take the lift elevator and get to the top or you can walk through the castle, which my kids thought was great. if you want to walk up it, go down the 'moat' on the left and just follow the path. It is a fun little experience to go through the entry of a castle. Or you can take the lift and walk down it...either way fun! Make sure to go on a pretty day, you can see forever and really take in just how big and populated the city of Naples is.

“Nothing but the view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2014

The castle although beautiful doesn't have much to it, they have a small art gallery which is interesting. The real star of the show is the view. An amazing panorama of 360 degree views. Make sure you go on a clear day. As the day we went was a little foggy.

“Worth the hike”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

I actually walked from Castel d'Ovo to Castel Sant'Elmo on a Saturday morning. It was sunny but cool, howver it is all uphill. Not for the un-fit (take the funicular from Via Toledo).
The entry fee is 5 euro when you eventually get there. A lift at the entrance to the castle takes you to the main courtyard. As other have already said, there isn't a lot to see inside the castle. There is a small museum, but 2 minutes takes care of that unless you're really into your history and antiquities.
However if you climb (yet more) steps to the ramparts, you are rewarded with absolutely spectacular views of the city below. You can pretty much walk all the way around. Whatever you do, don't forget your camera. On a clear day, you can see Sorrento and the Amalfi coast, the island of Capri, and of course Vesuvius, which looked good in January because it appeared to have had a covering of the white stuff overnight.
The castle is pretty big, but tourists don't get to see very much of it. Rather than go down again in the lift, I suggest you find the wide path in the far (SE) corner of the courtyard furthest away from the lift. It's a bit dark, but you at least get to see a bit more of the castle, and gives you a glimpse of the areas that you're not allowed near.
So go for the view. Just pick a clear day to get the benefit of a strenuous walk.

“There is nothing in the castle, but the views are very very good!”

Worth climbing up on any street you find, entry is around 5 euros, the castle inside is nothing special but the views over the city and the surrounding are are beautiful.
