“Very nice hotel in the heart of old Naples”
Reviewed November 26, 2009

Naples can be tough on the unitiated. The central area, rich in history, is dirty, no denying it. But to be able to walk Spacanapoli at night when every storefront is dazziling with local and unique flavor and return to your quiet and safe room is a priceless experience. The Metropolitana and funicular transportation connections are all within walking distance. Via Toledo is right around the corner. The Museo Archeologica is a short walk.

We spent three nights at Hotel Correra and the hospitality was first class. You need this kind of help in Naples. Nice breakfast included. Large clean room, and with the heavy duty window shutters closed you had peace from the "Bronx on steroids" outside.

We would definitely return. Highly recommended for a truely intense and colorful experience you will never forget.

Reallt researched my hotel in naples as there are sooo many bad reviews out there. Picked this as location was central and its reputation good. Arrived after travelling from Sorrento to basically being fobbed off and moved to their sister hotel Hotel Rex. Where as other hotel was fine it was miles from where we needed to be but apparently the fact it was 'by the seaside' was somehow meant to make up for the fact we were shunted down to the marina rather than being by the historical centre. The people arriving after us in an apparently now surprising full hotel (despite us having paid in advance for a non refundable room) were checked in without delay as they had a 3 day reservation not a 1 day one.
My advice clearly a 1 day booking is not considered important enough business to them and what we wanted and needed was not really taken into account and as such AVOID!

We are a family of five, with three children under 11. The apartment was relatively large, and was set up with a double bed and a rollaway downstairs, and a single with a bathroom upstairs. We had to have the smallest child in the bed with us, but there was still space to move and separate the kids a bit. The apartment was clean, and there was a nice, basic continental breakfast available. There was quite a lot of noise from the street below, but I don't know how you could avoid that in Naples. Its is a pretty energetic place. The staff were helpful. They are currently building on another 10 or so rooms at the back of the building, but the building didn't disturb us at all.

Let me first declare my own "conflict of interest": I have been using the "Correra 241" quite regularly in the last three years, and I have always felt so well looked after there that now I almost consider myself a member of the establishment!
It is a quite peculiar feeling: whenever I go there is like coming back home. Full credit for this goes to the hotel manager Gisella Grieco and to her deputy Marco Mezzacapo, and to their heartfelt sense of hospitality.

Let's go into details

A. Location:

Via Correra is a narrow alley very close to the central Piazza Dante. There is an underground station 150 yards away from the hotel.
Many of the city's tourist attractions are at walking distance (the Museo Nazionale, the San Gennaro Cathedral, Santa Chiara, only to mention a few of them)
Piazza Dante is a very "authentic" neighbourhood, very different from the area where all the luxury hotels are located (via Partenope) and also quite different from the Piazza dei Martiri and Chiaia shopping area - home to all the "global" luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Prada, etc.
So different that sometimes you may even feel threatened by the ubiquitous motorbikes that run through the alley day and night.
Make no mistake here: as many big international towns, Naples may occasionally be dangerous, but the Piazza Dante area is by no means rougher than other Neapolitan neighbourhoods.
B. The hotel
The Correra 241 occupies a portion of a "period" building, which was re converted a few years ago to become a "boutique" hotel.
At the moment the hotel has only 12 rooms, but a redevelopment programme is under way, and in a few months capacity will be increased to 21 rooms.
As a regular guest, I have some worries that doubling the size of the hotel might end up diluting the quality of the hospitality - thus rendering the place less attractive. On the other hand, more capacity would somehow reduce the risk of not being able to book a room when necessary - as it may happen even to "frequent" guests (like me!) if they forget to book well in advance.
C. Rooms
Rooms are spacious and well fitted, although no money was wasted on unnecessary frills.
They are also impeccably clean, thanks to the meticulous work of the cleaning lady Nunzia.
All rooms are equipped with satellite TV with access to all the more popular international channels.
D. Breakfast
Continental breakfast is included in room rates. If the whether is good, breakfast is served in a pleasant outdoor terrace.
Do not expect anything special, though: in Italy people tend to rush through breakfast, and in the Correra 241 you just do that: if you like to indulge in a full American breakfast, go somewhere else (both the Vesuvio and the Excelsior serve a very rich breakfast, only to mention two venerable Neapolitan hotels).
E. Other services
Even though everything is nice and clean, one must not forget that this is a "no frills" hotel, so do not expect any facility other than what you would find in an average bed & breakfast. What makes the difference here is the quality of the staff: Gisella and Marco would spare no effort to help you when their assistance is required. So do not shy away from asking them in the event you need some help.
F. Value for money
Hotel rates are generally affordable in Naples and the Correra 241 offers excellent value in its category.

This hotel was located off a back street which did not lead us to expect what turned out to be a lovely hotel at a very good price. Everything abou the hotel was positive, from the extremely friendly and helpful staff to the quality of the room and the basic but reasonable breakfast. The street outside was noisy especially late Saturday/early Sunday but that's a very minor crib. Very handy for historic (noisy, dirty!) Naples and the trains. The staff sorted out a taxi to the airport efficiently and helped us plan our trip to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. Loved the hotel, not so keen on Naples, but it was a good stop before heading home from our holiday on the Amalfi Coast.

My husband and I went to Naples for our honeymoon and stayed at this hotel for a few days. We then didn't really like Naples so we left for Pompei, Sorento and Rome but that's a diferent review.

This hotel was so adorable. Not the typical hotel which I actually really enjoyed. It's a backpackers dream. Free internet and breakfast. The front desk employees were so sweet and always made sure we were alright. The rooms were clean and had a view of real old Naples street.

It wasn't too far from the train station, about 15 walk. We stoped taking taxis because there is so many one way street that they would have to take the biggest detours and it would end up taking just as long to walk.

We stayed in the Hotel Correra for one night and we highly recommend the hotel to everyone who wants to spend a few days in Naples. The location of the hotel gives the chance to feel real Naples and to have a walk through the old town and the most importants sites. The outside view of the building doesn't reflect the inside and this is the pleasant surprise after many hours walking around the extremely noisy, dirty and crazy town of Naples! Our room was spacioys, clean, bright and colourful, the common areas are lovely, the staff service excellent and the breakfast a little bit basic but ok. Great value for money in the heart of Naples! The best choice in Naples for a budget stay.
