We stayed for 5 nights at this unpretentious and quiet B&B. It is somewhat off the center of the historical center, however, with the metro stop being so closely located, there is no problem at all in getting to the major sites. In fact, we appreciated coming back "home" every evening to this more residential untouristy area. The room was comfortable and in general the traditional and stylish wood furniture was an added pleasure. We can honestly say that we got out money's worth. We recommend it for independent travelers who do not need much in terms of assistance. We would certainly stay at the Areamare again.

Areamare B&B is just a few very walkable blocks from the American Consulate. Very convenient. It is also about a block from the Naples waterfront in a good neighborhood. Very nice. The B&B is three flights up, but there is a charming, old-fashioned elevator if you need it (or if you haven't filled up on the fabulous pizza in Napoli, as I did!). Ramon, the host, is gracious and attentive without being intrusive. My cozy room was decorated sweetly in light blue and silver. It had two single beds (not twin, folks--single--teeny). Very comfortable. The interior doors are beautifully made of wood with vintage amber glass panels. Nice touches like citrus candy on the nightstand and a secretary (writing desk) with books and magazines, although all were in Italian. The private bathroom was tiny but functional. I would have preferred a little more scrubbing of the grout between the floor tiles and the caulking in the shower. But hey, how can you beat the price of 55 euro, including a continental breakfast? Oh, and did I mention the original art throughout the B&B including in my room? Ramon's grandfather was the artist. The Metro is a couple of blocks away, and many bus lines are even closer. Taxis are waiting around the corner, too.

In this B&B you really feel at home, thanks to the kindness of the manager, Ramon, that will be always there to fulfil all your needs.
Rooms are clean and full furnished.
The position is not exactly in the historical center of the city but is very close to the seafront, very close to several shops, pizzerias, bars and restaurants, and it is well served by buses. Moreover, it is very closed to the train and underground station Napoli Mergellina.

I stay at Area Mare frequently because of it's location near the boat stop for ischia and the Mergellina train and metro stations, but the high cielings, large communal areas and comfy beds round it out. And it's only a short city block from the sea.
It's also very convenient for anyone needing to do visas at the US Consolate.
