We stayed at the Hotel Des Artistes for a week and found the Hotel Des Artistes to be a good base for our visit to beautiful but rather overwhelming Naples.
The hotel is mercifully set well back from the noise and bustle of the main street (Via Duomo) behind a courtyard and up the very grand flight of marble stairs. The lift is antique (tap dance in it if you have seen 'The Boyfriend'!) but it takes you safely up to the main reception on the first floor where you are greeted by the very friendly and helpful staff.
The décor of the hotel is somewhat eclectic (orange seems to be a favourite colour, with lots of gilt furnishings and gaudy pictures) but you soon get used to it. Our room was comfortable and we slept well. The planes to Naples airport get diverted over the city centre for a few days a week but they aren't a big problem. The plumbing in the hotel is a bit dodgy but I suppose it isn't surprising for what must be a former palazzo, now divided into various uses. Getting the toilet to flush is an art, but we got there by the end of the week!
Breakfast is mostly good, although it was a shame that there wasn't more fresh bread provided. Naples is awash with gorgeous rolls and loaves, but none of it makes its way to the breakfast room. A lot of the breakfast food is served wrapped in plastic so more fresh food would have been welcome, particularly fresh fruit salad. Maybe they don't have the facilities to prepare any fresh food on the premises. The only cooked food is a boiled egg if you ask for one. The lady who serves the breakfast was a delight and always welcomed us with a smile. She spoke little English and our Italian was even worse, but we managed to make ourselves understood somehow.

Although we had a very good stay in the Hotel Des Artistes and I happily recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, if slightly quirky, base close to the Centro Storico, I would make one constructive suggestion to the owners/managers of the hotel, who I know read these reviews. In this day and age when we are trying to be more sustainable, I was very surprised that there is no sign at all that the hotel tries to improve their green credentials. There are no signs in the rooms encouraging people to reuse towels, which get changed everyday. We would even have been happy to have the bed linen changed every other day as well if asked. The cups for water in the room are plastic, wrapped in further plastic and these get thrown away. Likewise, the spoons for tea/coffee are plastic, wrapped in plastic. Could glasses and metal spoons not be provided so they can be washed and reused? In the bathroom the little plastic bottles for shampoo get thrown away and the soap is wrapped in plastic, but providing refillable bottles for shampoo and soap could avoid this. Again, a lot of the breakfast food comes wrapped in plastic and all of this single use plastic is very bad for the environment. We were pleased to be given a complementary bottle of wine when checking out, but will make sure the glass gets recycled!

The three of us had stayed in this hotel last September but wanted our son to visit Naples as well. We contacted the hotel and asked if we could stay in room 6 again which had a queen bed and two twin beds, perfect for our family of four. The staff was so sweet and remembered us from our first visit. It was wonderful seeing Valeria and Tomas again!
The hotel was a perfect location to eat the best pizza, Insolito La Pizzeria which was very close to the hotel. Beautiful churches, museums and a large grocery store were a few blocks away. The train station was a 15-20 walk. A person truly couldn't ask for a better centrally located hotel.
Breakfast was included. I will miss the freshly squeezed orange juice and the excellent cappuccino!
The beds did fill most of the room but who wants to spend time in their room anyway. A hot water pot and a refrigerator were also in the room.
See you the next time we are in Naples!

as many things in Napels, arrival with a car is a "mild" challenge, but we made it. The guy at the desk was very friendly and helpful. Not many guests in the hotel at this time of year, and they gave us an upgrade free of charge to the suite with balcony on the street-side. When closing the balcony doors, everything was quiet and we did not hear a thing and slept very well in the good beds. Breakfast was good, so we would recommend this place to anyone. They even presented us with a free bottle of local wine at check-out (tasted excellent). Please make sure to use the old-fashioned elevator that reminded me of the Venice scene in the Bond movie "casino royale".

Room tip: 22 is the suite, good room

Service was good, breakfast ok. Our room and bed were too small for 2 adults, also the sewer was smelling all the time in the room. Location good, if arriving with the train, about 20 min walk from the station. Don't take reception recommendation about the restaurants as granted, check the recommendations first. Also good to mention that planes goes over the city when taking off, this causes noise during 6:00 - 22:00.

Room tip: Ask the room with the painted stars in the roof.

The hotel is beautifully decorated with high ceilings and window. The staff is super friendly and helpful. It's centrally located in a quiet neighborhood. I had the best experience of my life time at this hotel. The front desk staff had the best customer service. Dayana was so nice that she upgraded our room and we received a bottle of wine as a gift. I loved the classy decor so much that it made feel like an aristocrat. It was the best hotel experience I ever had! Breakfast was great with lots of options, I loved the pastries and fresh orange juice. I can not say enough good things about this hotel. It was so memorable that I can not wait to return to Naples to stay at this hotel.

Room tip: Junior Suite is big and quiet, A/C is quiet, and beautifully decorated.
