“Our favorite hotel in Naples”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

We think Hotel Neapolis was the best hotel choice. We walked to all the attractions in Naples with no problem. Plenty of restaurants and pizzerias nearby as very well. The accommodations and staff were thoroughly pleasant. We stayed 3 nights: rooms very clean and best furnished, breakfast very complete, free internet wi fi access. All people very cordial and informative.

We spent 6 nights with my family at Neapolis hotel.
Wonderful stay, good hotel, friendly staff and GREAT LOCATION.
The room was large and nicely furnished and was very, very clean.
The breakfast (with ham, cheese and salami!!!) was good. To try!

We arrived in Naples via train from Mantua and before that Rome; the taxi service was efficient and really does give you a taste of Italian driving. oh my goodness.............. hair raising is an understatement!
The Hotel isn't an obvious place, but after arriving we were met by very welcoming staff and shown to our room, which wasn't clean, after stating that I needed a clean room, they apologised and took us to an alternative which was immaculate, well attended and with great security.
Hubby and i took a quick walk around the local streets to acquaint ourselves i must say I sobbed my heart out; it was filthy dirty, smelt really bad and the traffic was so noisey and dangerous.
I had to accept this was a busy port town and had its' own history, so overlooking the poverty in the smaller streets and the immense amount of dog poop everywhere, we adopted an open mind and began to enjoy the city!
Naples provided a great gateway to Ischia and Capri with a short and cheap ferry ride to these islands.
Back to the hotel, it was a sufficient base and we had a great room after insisting we were moved...........but would I return there?
No, not to Naples unless the Hotel was a proven 5 star and away from the working end of the town and most certainly not to this hotel, we've done the rough side!

Room Tip: Check the room fully before accepting it, pull back the sheets and check the shower area..... We ask...

This was our first stay in Italy on our whirl wind family tour of Europe so had no idea what to expect.

(The Taxi ride from the airport was an experience in itself but that's another story!)

We were able to be dropped directly outside in the extremely narrow cobbled street and ambled on it. There was a security access to get through (Button/intercom system) which was all a bit alien to us. We ventured up stairs to reception and were given our room key etc. The english was limited (and out Italian even more so) so the language barrier didn't make things easy but we found we were shown to our room and were pleasantly surprised with what we found.
This turned out to be the roomiest accommodation on our whole trip. cool, comfortable, air conditioned. Tiled floors and classic drapes as I suppose you'd expect to get in old Naples.

We found the whole Naples experience a bit scary and unnerving but probably more because of the stories we heard before going than anything else. We found the hotel an excellent retreat at the end of a long day in the heat.

Just what we needed when travelling with two children (8 and 10) and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if we're ever back in Naples.

We have found it difficult to appreciate some of the positive TA reviews of this hotel. We were with a small tour group so had not booked privately. Having travelled internationally for 30 years [all continents and 76 countries] we have accumulated significant knowledge and experience to be able to judge hotel standards pretty accurately. However, we do stress that we have only stayed in one room at this hotel but if this was a fair sample of the available accommodation then it rates as one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in. Fortunately we only had one night here.
The tiny attic-like room up a narrow staircase was dreadful: small, dark [only a high window] and poorly furnished. The bed and pillows were hard and thin, the latter resembling badly folded cardboard boxes. We had to remove the globe from a bedside light which flashed continuously - and that was when it was switched off. The toilet seat was broken. The towel rail fell off the wall. The toilet roll holder couldn’t be used. No toiletries were supplied. The shower was moldy. The fridge had a massive block of ice around the freezer door, ran continuously, had to be turned off and was practically unusable. The hotel’s central air conditioning unit [or some other machinery] located somewhere close to our ‘window’, vibrated, rattled and whined most of the night. Our diary notes it turned off at 03:40 and turned back on again at 06:15 - that’s how much sleep we managed - most definitely not impressed.
Breakfast was minimal - very simple Continental. Its only redeeming feature was the roof top area our group used for the introductions - great views, pleasant staff. We are confident that there are better mid-range hotel options in Naples. Maybe we just got one of the the worst rooms?

Room Tip: Apparantly there are larger rooms with a view and a balcony.

We stayed in hotel Neapolis for 2 nights in September and really could not wait to leave, in fact we even tried to book another hotel but could not find a suitable alternative on a Sunday night. Bugs in the shower that needed to be hosed down every morning, smelly bed linen and really awful breakfast - we just chose to eat out everyday. Service is nonexistent. The only silver lining to our Naples leg was a fun day trip to Pompeii and amalfi coast. Never again!

The Hotel Neapolis is on piano 3 (fourth floor) of a fine old building DEAD in the center of the old city of Naples. It's at the intersection of Via Tribunale and Via Francesco de Guidice. Most rooms overlook a very busy square; indeed, the Hotel owns/runs the restaurant that has its tables outside in that square. The hotel itself is very nice; large rooms, spacious bathrooms (but small showers only, as is typical), small balconies overlooking the piazza below. The breakfast room in the piano 4 is pleasant, and the food is fine, albeit nothing to go wild over, but a substantial breakfast. The staff are helpful and attentive. Via Tribunale is a great street, full of shops catering mostly to the natives, since this rather loud and busy part of the old city doesn't attract many tourists. As the title says, you gotta like city life, with its noise and boisterousness. And you won't find taxis around; the streets are too narrow, but the hotel will call one for you with no problem. It's a 1/2 or 3/4 mile walk to either the harbor (ferries/cruise ships) or the train station at Piazza Garibaldi. Still, if you want to experience the grime, grit, and trash of Naples, of which there is plenty, as well as the exuberance and vitality of the city, this hotel is for you.

Room Tip: Our room right over the piazza was a tad noisy; the hotel's restaurant was extremely good and ve...
