The hotel's website gave the illusion that the hotel was quiet and pretty by a botanical garden. It is not. It is in the middle of town on a busy street. It is well worn. The rooms were large. The air conditioning worked fair. The staff assisted us, but certainly were not all that friendly. We did feel secure in the room which is important in Naples. There was a good restaurant about 1/2 block uphill from the hotel.
Naples is unsettling. Very busy, very dirty, and the drivers think that street lanes and street signs are suggestions. There is rumors of lots of petty crime, but we had no contact with this experience. We have no interest in returning there.

We spent ten days in Italy in four different towns. This was our first experience in this country so our review is based solely on this trip.

We had some hesitations visiting Naples due to rumors of safety issues. Since this was the last town we visited in the country and were--arguably--more attuned to the culture, we truly enjoyed our visit to both this hotel and the town.

This hotel was comparably well-priced and clean. The breakfast was very good and the staff "serving" it were extremely nice.

We ended up in the handicap room which was spacious, but had some issues with water draining. My husband is a light sleeper so we were VERY happy to see multiple sound barriers separating the noises from the road from those in our room. The patio--though small--was also a nice touch.

Overall, would highly recommend this hotel and would advise spending about two days in Naples...once you have spent some time elsewhere in the country to become more immersed.

Visited Naples in Late May 2014 for 4 nights to take in Pompei, Herculaneum and Vesuvius. The hotel is average and as found in other reviews not 4 star. Hotel looks a little tired but the rooms are spacious, clean and tidy. Real cross section of staff, breakfast guy was friendly, old reception guy was a double for the Italian Basil Fawlty.

Close to the metro so access to all the sites is easy. If you are doing the tourist bit make sure you get an Artecard - http://www.campaniartecard.it/artecard_Regione.cfm You will save on the travel if nothing else.

Tourists sites are great and entry to all is inexpensive, beware the Vesuvius £10 trip, it will actually cost you ten more to get to the summit of the volcano.

As for Naples it is a dirty, smelly, unfriendly and dangerous city (this is coming from someone who lived 8 years in Africa). Scooters drive on the pavement, through red lights and basically do what they like. Every car is a dodgem with a permanently sounding horn. Everywhere (and I mean everywhere) is covered with graffiti.

My advice, if you want to to the historical sites stay in Sorrento, you can access everything just as easily from there. Avoid Naples like the plague, and just drop in for a day trip to the excellent Archaeological Museum.

If you visit Capri take lots of cash, you will need it.

Room Tip: Try and get a room at the rear of the hotel, our room was triple glazed but the traffic noise was st...

I have been coming to Hotel Del Real Orto Botanico a couple of times every year since 2007. I bring a group of American university students with me on a field trip to study art in Naples. We all love this hotel and its charming decor with antiques. The personnel is very nice and helpful. The rooms are pleasant and cozy with comfortable beds. The breakfast is ample and good. The location is great. It's situated across the street from a green park area, but it's close to the historic center. We can walk easily to the Archeological museum and to Via Duomo to visit the Cathedral and then Spaccanapoli. It's conveniently near the Cavour metro stop. There are some non-touristy, good, inexpensive small places to eat Neapolitan specialties nearby. The Hotel also supplies environment-friendly bathroom products. I've always had a positive experience staying at this hotel and highly recommend it.

We arrived late in the evening to Hotel Del Real Orto Botanico this summer, We asked the receptionist three times where to park our rented car. His English was not good. The third time he went with us into the street, and he pointed to the other side of the street. My husband asked "between the trees?" and he said "yes". The car was parked there across the hotel in the street. Next day, the car was stolen. The receptionist was not the same as the night before. The only service he gave us was to draw a circle on a city map to inform us where the police could be found. No kind words, no taxi paid by the hotel to the police station, no call to the police. My family and I were in shock. In the evening, I went to the night receptionist to tell him what had happened, as we had only done what he HAD TOLD us to do. He could not remember and his English was "very little", he said. So my point is: If you come to this hotel in a car, then find a parking house and do not listen to the receptionist. Our holiday was destroyed on our second day in Italy.

We stayed here one night as we passed through on our way to Positano. We were told the hotel was 500m from the station and so we walked. It wasn't! it was closer to 2kms away and was a crazy walk through busy, bustling streets of Naples. An experience I guess. But I suggest you go for a taxi. The hotel itself is also on a very busy road across from the botanical gardens. we asked for a quiet room at the back of the hotel and were so grateful as the road became even crazier once evening set in and the restaurants right near the hotel came alive. Having said that, these restaurants served amazing food and the speciality is seafood so don't merely go for the Naples standard pizza. Hotel itself was fine - our room was big and clean and spacious. Loved the bathroom - this was newly done, big and spotless and a nice shower. Would prefer soap though to sachets of liquid soap as this is a mess next to the basin. Breakfast was average. BIG complaint - wifi is not free which is unacceptable to me from a hotel. this was the first hotel where we had to pay for wifi usage. All in all we have stayed in nicer 3 star hotels and so I can only rate this as average.

Stayed here for two nights, is situated on a very busy road in Naples with traffic noise goin well until midnight, the room was quite spacious, the beds were very hard and had to ask for more pillows, the added bonus was breakfast being included which was nice, the main part I didn't like the hotel asked for us to leave our passports as security that really didn't sit well with me. Overall I would give it a three star rating out of five
