“Good choice for local life”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We booked this hotel through British Airways and went for New Year. Naples centre can be chaotic so this hotel is well-placed to experience Naples without the drama. We liked the fact that there are local restaurants filled with local people. The hotel itself is clean; our room was on the small side but we didn't mind - we were there to see the city. The breakfast is typical Italian style with a few cooked extras like eggs, bacon and sausage. The only thing we felt was lacking was the warm Italian welcome. I have lived in Italy and worked in hotels there and I felt the staff were not enjoying what they do.

Booked this hotel jointly with BA tickets - it was in a good location and was very good value. The street outside was busy, but that didn't matter. There were good bus routes into town and the coast. It was about a 20 minute walk to the 'Centro Storico'. Breakfast was ok.

We travelled along the Amalfi coast in July 2012 visiting Sorrento 4 nights, Positano 2 nights,
Amalfi 3 nights, and had to go back to Naples for our last night because the airport check-in
was 8am in the morning.
Although all the other accommodation was booked in the UK, we booked this hotel for our last night in Italy online from our Positano hotel.
We had already seen a bit of Naples in our hire car trying to get out of the city, and were not at all impressed with it. So were not expecting much from this one night. When we checked in, it
was an extremely busy noisy road, traffic noise from the room so loud we had to close the shutters and put the AC on. The room was very dark and dingy and we noticed the wardrobe had fluff in the base and one of the doors was broken. We only had to unpack very little for one night's stay, and the bathroom did have some toiletries. My husband checked out the downstairs restaurant and immediately decided against eating in the hotel. We did walk a few minutes up the road to an outside pavement
restaurant where only one of the 10 or so waiters spoke English. We ordered a pizza and the meal was just OK. We then went straight back to the Hotel and went to bed, as we did not want
to stay out on the streets any longer.
Our hire car had been parked half a mile or so away in a "secure car park" costing us an additional 15Euros as we had to use it to get to the airport next day. The petrol level was definitely a lot lower the next day as we had filled it to full to return it. You certainly learn by your
experiences and next year we will not stay in Naples but get a later flight back home by paying

Spent two weeks at the hotel with my wife and two teenage sons. Rooms were a good size and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast is the basic continental. Surrounding area doesn't look great as it isn't particularly clean. That said we walked pretty much everywhere and experienced no issues whatsoever.Takes about twenty minutes to walk to central historical area of the city. About the same to the train station which makes Pompeii, Vesuvius and Sorrento easily accessible (train travel is very reasonably priced). Restaurants next door, over the road and about 300 yards turning left out of the hotel are all good. Shellfish (fruit de mare) is the norm and if you like it then you'll enjoy the restaurants. Not much choice for the meat eater though. Menus are all in italian only of course so read up before you go. The restaurant three hundred yards up the road has a waiter who has spent a couple of years in the States and speaks good english which is handy for getting used to the menus. Worth picking up some food from the local carrafore and having a picnic on the hotel roof terrace . The hotel discourage eating in the rooms but are happy for you to picnic on the terrace. Cracking barbers 30 yards right of the hotel. Crossing the road can be fun, red lights appear to be advisory rather than a requirement. Scooter riders appear to have their own set of rules. Riding on the footpath isn't uncommon. Curiously drivers seem relaxed and totally unphased by the melee. If you prefer to travel by cab then just make sure you agree the price first. We found cab prices reasonable enough. The bar in the hotel appears closed but the staff will happily serve you if you ask at reception. The hotel restaurant is closed. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the orto botannico and have plenty of good memories. It's a good base to explore the city. I would say it's more suited to the two three night stay rather than a couple of weeks. Apparently there is an additional tax levied by the Italian government of 2 euro's per night per person (adults) for a max of ten nights for foreign visitors. Expect to see it on your bill. Not sure whether this is permanent or not. Point is we weren't expecting it.

A decent place to stay, though one's expectation is a lot more from a four star hotel. Most of the site seeing places are in walking distance from the hotel which is an addadvantage. The hotel staffs are hospitable especially Guosua who sits at the reception is a wonderful person, extends all possible help, and most importantly (for people who do not understand italian) speaks very good english.

Areas surrounding the hotel do not help the overall experience . Excellent restaurant next to hotel.
Good price, clean rooms and excellent service. Very close to cruise ship terminal, interesting surroundings , lots of local shops .
